I’m going to have a 150 amp panel in my new shop.

To make the connection to my main panel I will have ~85’ run in the basement and ~ 75’ buried to the shop.

Does it make more sense to run URD the entire length and put it in conduit in the basement, or use SER in the basement and have a junction box at the outside wall to tie into the URD going to the shop?

Most of the run in the basement will be in a ~ 2’ x 2.5’ utility chase way with house wiring and plumbing.

URD is not flame resistant so you can't use it for inside wiring even in conduit.
SER cannot be buried.
Mobile Home Feeder cable can be used for both, but needs conduit for physical protection indoors.

If it’s single rated URD, then it is not permitted for use inside the building.

use AL MHF entire length, must be in conduit indoors, or SER inside and transition to MHF for underground run

The urd can't go inside your shop either, so you would have two transitions.

I wonder what use URD really serves with MHF available.
