Urinal in the shop?

Just finishing up my 30 x 40 shop and realize it needs a urinal so I don't have to ,run to the house. I didn't put a toilet in as everyone said, don't go there with the city even though the city sewer line runs 15 feet from my shop. Also the neighbors are to close to go out the back door. What are your suggestions. Thanks Doug

a piece of 1" pvc that goes through the exterior wall and slopes downward with a funnel duct tape to the interior side

A urinal is fine, but I think a regular toilet would be better. Either way you need to be able to flush it, so you need water and sewer run to the shop. Since you have water and sewer run to the shop you may as well put in a sink and a small water heater so you can wash your hands.

I think a modification to the funnel idea is in order. Dig a hole about the size of a 5 gal bucket, add about 8" of gravel, run the pvc pipe into the hole, add another 6" of gravel, finish filling the hole with dirt and the grass divet you dug up. Now remember at the end of the day dump the dregs from your beer or coffee cup down the tube to wash any unsavory dribblings away. Benifits, 1, no running into the house.. 2, no worries with winter freezing. 3, the wife won't use it. 4, the grandsons will think its real cool.

I went to an auction one day and the guy had a outhouse looking deal built inside the shop, so I take a look and there is a urinal. I walk around the corner of the building and there is a hand truck with a small barrel strapped to it and a hose stuck in the barrel. Creative I guess but I think I'll just go back to the house.

I am no expert on this, but it is my understanding that a waterless urinal uses a trap of sorts. Water is put into the trap and some sort of oil is also put in the trap. The oil floats on top of the water. Urine, being heavier, will sink to the bottom and the smell can't rise above the oil.

A waterless urinal, depending on the manufacturer, will cost somewhere around $500. Depending on usage, you need to clean the urinal every few months by flushing everything down with several gallons of water. You also need to replace the trap and the oil, which I have heard is not exactly cheap. Despite popular belief, waterless urinals are not entirely waterless.

I just go behind my shed next to the garage. But the funnel may be added for winter. This year we had 4' of snow to contend with so the shed idea went away. lol

I only have an 8'x10' enclosed breezeway between the garage and the house, but a urinal would have been cool back when I drank more (often).

Funnel out the wall into a small gravel pit. Keep a gallon jug of water next to it to "flush" it after ******* (few oz. at a time).

I'm lucky enough to be able to piss anywhere on my property (even at my mailbox) without being seen...

Keep it simple: here we put a 55 gallon drum in the ground with the bottom removed, run a small drain into it and you're done. How the liquid gets to the "Poor man's septic tank" is up to your imagination. Be creative and come up with something unique. Some people have even linked several barrels together for solid waste usage, which has lasted for many years. This ain't rocket science.

This is what I am putting together in my shop to eliminate running back to the house. I also have a deep laundery sink hooked up as well. I exit the shop with 2" and then step it up to 4" with holes drilled for the french drain which is 8' long. The 4"x8' piece is surrounded by 2' of 'modified' lime stone.

Great idea. Another thing I just thought of on this setup you have here in the picture is you could put a T in the water line for your sink with a ball valve and run another line off of it over to the pee drain. after you pee, open the valve in the water line to flush the tube so there is no smell. Wala, instant urinal

Yep, I'm sure they make one of those elbows that are threaded on the end for a cap or you can adapt one to it.

Thanks! I do plan on teeing off the water line with a ball valve and going in from the top through a cap and somehow having it spray around to rinse. All the watereline are temporary until i install my point of use water heater. For now i squirt dawn in it and flush it at the end of the day with a bucket of water. Even after i hook up the water i still may do the dawn thing or make a screen to put in it so i can set a urinal cake on. Still in the design stage....

I told my wife I wanted to put one in the new garage as well, since the closest bathroom in the house is on the opposite side from where the garage is and have to cross the carpet to get to it. She is good with it. Would be much better to just have a port in the garage to use on the fly and then get back to work. Would not need a full toilet in there, but the setup in the above post should work well and use the same drain as the shop sink. Two birds, one stone

I finished the plumbing this weekend on my PVC urinal. I took a 4x2 reducer and a 2x3/4 reducer and some rubber gasket stock. I cut the rubber just slightly larger than the 2" reducer and then drilled holes in it. This fits in the 4x2 reducer and cups out like a diaphram. I glued the 2x3/4 reducer in the 4x2 reducer. The 4x2 reducer is just stting in the top of the wye for easy remova; if necessaey. I then plumbed up the pex with a ball valve. Works great. The rubber insert that i drilled with holes creates a good spary that hits all surfaces.
