urinal/sink drain rough in

Hi,
Just getting ready to pour a thickened edge slab/floor for my garage. I am planning to rough in a sink/ urinal drain pipe. Should I bring this up through my foundation/floor directly inside one of my exterior walls or have it come up through my floor some distance from the wall?

If I had it to do again, I would bring them up in the wall, because it makes it easier to run the vent up and out. You should really consider having a sink AND a urinal so you don't have to bend over too far to wash your hands.

When you are installing a sink it doesn't make much difference whether the water and drain pipes are in the wall behind the sink or in the floor under the sink. Urinals that I have seen are all wall hung---and the drain goes into wall on which the urinal is mounted. The water supply needs to go the flush valve on top of the urinal. It could be plumbed from about any direction, but having the water supply in the wall makes a neater look.

In a cold climate, I would be concerned about possible freezing--more the water supply line than the drain line. From that standpoint having the lines in a heated area rather than buried in an exterior wall makes more sense.

For looks, having the pipes in the wall would look neater. For easy of any future maintenance or changes, having the pipes inside may be better.

A compromise solution would be to build a double wall in the area where you sink and urinal will be located. The outer wall would be fully insulated, and the inner wall would just be plumbing chase.

Regardless of our opinions, you should consult the local building code before making a decision.

I would avoid any pipes coming through the floor, the area around any urinal can become messy and floor clean up is easier without pipes in the way.

waterless urinal would make it simpler . code may discourage pipes in foundation so you may need to come out in the floor and offset back into the wall

When I did my sink, the rough in was placed just inside the footing. All the plumbing above the floor is inside the insulation, and I built out the area behind the sink to cover. So far, this has been easy to clean and reduces the risk of a freeze up.
