Between 705 & 1200 SQ/FT US Gen Series 3

First time here, and thought I’d post a photo of my gray 72” Series 3 roll cab with hutch and end lockers.

I’m super tall and wanted the work surface of the hutch much higher, so I built chunky risers from 2x6s and placed them under each wheel. This left a nearly 12” gap under the box which looked odd, so I cobbled together a filler piece and covered it in black carpet tile.

Generally happy with the Series 3 stuff.

Since you has 12" under the cabinet, why not create storage drawers for heavy stuff under there?
Now you got me thinking of raising my cabinets and building rolling trays for storing jack stands, and other stuff under there.

How high is the work surface now, @Polidori? I'm 6'6" and elevated work surfaces are most welcome. I like your thinking.

The work surface is about 51.5” from the floor. To achieve this I built two rectangular boxes from 2x6s, jacked up each side of the cabinet with a floor jack and slid the boxes under the wheels. It’s solid.

Those gen3's are super nice boxes.... almost makes me wish they were around when I bought my icon setup.

6'5" here, so I'm all about higher work benches, but the lack of a toe kick will make that pretty uncomfortable to stand at, I think

Thank you Blackbyrd - I’ll take some more photos today. I’ve had the black and red Racedeck tiles for nearly 18 yrs but didn’t want a black or red chest. However, I did add a red 56” roll cab the other day for my woodworking stuff. Figured another gray chest would be overkill.

One of my favorite features is this LED strip that runs along the bottom of the wall and sits on the baseboard.

I know, wainscot is overkill for a garage, but it looks better than a vast expanse of painted drywall.


This is an 8’ long adjustable height work bench from Husky.


I added some LED light strips to each end locker. They come on as soon as the door opens (light sensor). $40 on Amazon.


Lots of Olsa and Tool Widget organizers.


Another great feature is this parking spot for the floor jack. I lined the adjacent baseboard with carpet tile so the jack doesn’t mar the wood.

I'm interested in the base board light idea. I like the overall look of the thing you got going.

I'm guessing the hex lights can get a bit overpowering so the baseboard lights are easier on the eyes

You’re correct about the hex lighting - it is too bright, in fact, I rarely use them cuz between the baseboard light, hutch light, and under cabinet lights over the bench, there is enough light for most work.

If you PM me I’d be happy to show you the Amazon parts I used for the baseboard lighting. I think the whole set-up is about $140.

I have a loft going into my shop as soon as I have a minute to breathe and build it. I have led tubes for the upper lighting but kinda like the idea of lighting down low like yours. Might have to steal that.

It is super easy to do. And electrical-wise, all you need is an outlet at the beginning of the run.

No problem . Each shelf in the end lockers has a lip at the front, and that’s where I put each strip. More than enough light.
