Everytime I read something about union workers I think about the jobs banks program. Unions badgering companys to pay laid off employees to do nothing.

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2008/11/25/automakers-jobs-bank-program-pays-laid-workers/

Its going to be very hard for the unions to overcome their reputation for greed.

A little info on the Job bank, GM was the one who initiated that program to the Unions. It was very Hush.. Hush deal and Gm didnt want any of the info to get out to other Car companies, Sadly Ford and Chrysler soon followed with similar plans and all was well till the complete meltdown over the last 3-4 years. It Started in 1984, and It was a concession program to allow them to get serious with robotics in production of vehicles and to protect current (<1984) employees from losing there job to a machine. It doesnt protect "ALL" employees from losing there job because of falling sales, Plant closings etc. It was fully funded back in 1984 and trust me Gm as made enough money via interest to protect the 15,000 nationwide employees it governs today. I believe there are current similar programs that UAW workers are protected by but its part of a benefit package that they along with the company contribute too and there are stipulations on job offers acceptance etc. I really dont think its any different than a severance package, Ceo getting Unheard of bonuses during failing years etc. If you want to get the biased opinion and general consensus that unions are entirely bad, Greedy etc etc.... Fox News is definitely the place to hang out.

I used this box for 4 years at the dealership i work at and had every drawer loaded with tools and used the top as a workbench and it never gave me a problem. As long as its not used as a tool cart and moved around all the time it will work just fine, the wrinkle finish is a ***** to keep clean if you care about that, the draw liners need to be glued down or replaced with good ones. I just upgraded to a Snap On KRL1022 but the US General was good to me while i had it, also i just sold it on Craiglist for $250 so it does have some used value......

All this political BS over a tool box. Can anyone give me an alternative New USA built example anywhere close to the same price with the same quality?

Unfortunately no. Those days are gone brother.

For what it is worth, this box is very nice. I have one, and will be adding two 7 drawer pieces to it here soon.

I just sold one and have owned 3 of the bottom roller cabs. My point was is why someone who has limited funds settle for inferior quality because of COO. In 1984 you could buy a Toyota Camry or a Well Equipted Chrysler K car for about the same money. If you know cars that all the explination needed. There are people who really think buying used toolboxes will help the economy. It takes at least 15 US workers to get a HF toolbox from the docks to your truck. This still keeps lots of American workers off of public assistance and in a job. China only gets pennies on the dollar of the price of that box. Some people can't see the forrest for the trees

You got a better deal and a much better tool box, if you need to sell it someone will actually buy it for a reasonable price. Plus you don't have to look at a piece of Chinese junk everyday, can't put a price on that, your tools are also happier, they'd thank you if they could talk.
I hate Chinese made stuff! I have bought a few Chinese made items and later felt I was doing my country a disservice, as well as myself, as well as buying myself out of a job. But a Tool Box should be American made as far as I am concerned. Of course the price is high, but if I shop around I think I could find a good used one or start small and add on.

I purchased this box yesterday, stacked my 2 Craftsman intermediate boxes on top of it, and love it! Definitely an improvement in size over my previous Craftsman 26" rolling box (which I've also kept).

One question: the HF box came with four bolts - 2 socket screws for mounting the handle, and two shorter (about 3/4") that I can't figure out what they are for? Can anyone tell me what those two stubby bolts are use for?

They are used to attach the optional side boxes (7 drawer, short cabinet, tall cabinet). If you look at the bottom of the sides of the roller cabinet you'll find holes that they should thread into.
