Hello,

I don't own one of these carts, but if I understand correctly some of them have finger latches that lock the drawers closed. I'd like to retrofit these latches to a US General 44-inch tool cabinet in my work van. Has anyone tried this?

If you have this cart with the finger latches, could you please upload some detail photos of the drawer pull cross-section, how the latch attaches to the drawer, and how the latch locks to the jamb? I appreciate it!

Thanks,
Chip

This is the drawer latch off the US General 56" box. It is a cheap, low quality item and if you need a replacement it takes about 10 weeks to receive them. The cost is less than $2 each but HF will only sell you 8 at a time. I have broken 6 of them at this point and am down to my last two spares.

They mount to the face of the drawer under the handle with 2 screws and the molded in clip.

I just tried it on a series one 44" box and it will not fit under the handle without trimming the part you actuate with your finger.

There are many reasons to NOT use these.

You could always try to fabricate your own slam latch bolts. Would probably be better built, but would also probably be more expensive.

Could also just modify a cheap metal one and put a plastic lip/replace the bolt to not mar the paint as badly as steel or aluminum.
