I'm a noob, so forgive me if I post in the wrong place.

I have an older (at least 10 year old) US general 44" bottom toll chest. The rubber mat on the top of the box is finished and I need to find something to replace it.

I didn't have much luck with the search function.

I looked at some drawer liners, but I don't think they will hold up. I do repairs on ATV's as a side job, and I don't think the liners will hold up as I use the box as a second work bench sometimes for big projects.

Any suggestions that aren't crazy expensive?

some 1/2 or 3/4 ply laid double . seal it with some oil it lasts well and strengthens top area . plus can overhang it to size you desire if needed/benefit .
Decent rubber bit picey, could look at picking up offcut of stainless plate if got a friendly local shop . prefer decent ply myself .

McMaster Carr. Or if you know any industrial maintenance guys, get a piece of conveyor belting and cut to fit. I had a piece on my box at work for around 20 years, and if it survived that, it will survive anything. You can contact glue it to a piece of plywood which is what I did. It works.

Go to Lowes or Home Depot. Hit up the flooring section for the rubber runners they sell by the foot.
Buy enough to cover the top of your box. Go to plywood section. Buy a 4X8 sheet of 3/4 sanded and cut it to fit and sand edges. Glue rubber to plywood and keep on working.

Thank you all for the responses!

I have a Tractor Supply and a Lowes within 5 miles of my house. I'll stop by both this week.

I bought a 4'x6'x0.75" thick stall mat from TSC to lay on the garage floor under my motorcycle so I'm not rolling around on the hard concrete when working on it. No lie, they are tough and heavy, and to me a bargain at $40. And they often go on sale for $35. That's what I paid.
