i like the black on the hf boxes. can you get the side lockers in that black too? i don't mind the red on mine but i like that a whole lot more. i'll sell my red for all black stuff if its all available in it

You could when I bought it back around Christmas time, not sure about now though.

No more black "for now, maybe later???" I was told black is discontinued and no longer available. If you go to the HF site only the bottom box is available in black. If you want any other components you have to hunt them down at the stores if they have them. So, if you want them, get them now.

Right now im leaning towards the masterforce It seem a little bit nicer then the harbor freight box and when you figure in the cost of fuel and my time to go 65 miles to HF its only like 40 bucks cheaper plus the masterforce has a life time waranty only bad part is the green color.

I think the green goes with the Menards in store tool display boards etc. It doesn`t mean people want it in their garage. Hello Marketing dept.

I know this is an old thread but to save on a new thread and having someone reply "search the old threads", I am replying here...

Menards now sells these tool cabinets and boxes in blue, red or black. They do not stock these colors at the stores around me, assuming that's the case everywhere. They charge a few bucks more for the blue, red and black but if the color makes a difference then it is worth the extra $20/30 and wait a couple weeks for it to arrive at the store.

I personally have a couple months before I buy a new tool cabinet and chest, at present I have narrowed it down to the 41" Kirkland (Costco), 41" masterforce, and the 44" US General. Also considering a model on Amazon, WEN 41".

The Menards boxes have been revamped and are not the same ones discussed on this thread back in 2010. The HF boxes also have a new finish, but I believe are otherwise the same.

I have a personal preference toward the Masterforce due to color options and the griplatch-style locking mechanisms. I also don't care for the aluminum trim on the HF drawer pulls.

Masterforce are quite nice and have lot of sizes and addon expansion drawers/lockers.
Sale prices on Masterforce are not that of HF in frequency or cost saving but is a better finished box and proper full length drawer latching is really nice if in/out drawers a lot so worth considering and holding out for a sale .

Note the statement of "proper". I would agree the masterforce is much better with respect to drawer latching. The 56" and above HF models have the right side latch release, so you can really only open the drawer from there.

I really wish HF would incorporate grip latch to their boxes.
