US General Series 2 - beats Blue Point

I really wanted to like the us general cart and it performed adequately for its price, but the drawers and slides were just ******* wrecked after 9 months of use in a pro environment. I upgraded to a krsc46 promptly and there is no comparison at all. I have every drawer absolutely stuffed and the drawers and casters roll as smoothly as an empty box. It's built like a top of the line toolbox, but it has all of the portability of a utility cart.

That Informercial is hilarious. Might as well try to convince me RP CRAFTSMANS RATCHETS smoke snap on ratchets by the same logic...

I don’t see the romance in a HF unit because the floor demo’s tell the real tale. Everytime i go to the store, all them units are beat. Some of the drawers feel “off track”’, drawer handles are bent, like people could not figure out the lever to release the drawer... etc etc.

If im gonna spend money on a HF, gonna spend the $800 and get that 44” combo box chest and get the single drawer cart instead. Id like to believe that $169 cart is good as a everyday service cart, but id like the best bang for my buck. You’d think HF could splurge on soft closing drawer rails to guarantee the mechanisms will lock the box. The action they do come with are WAY BETTER than my black friday craftsman boxes... which ironically I spent about $250, and got top middle and rolling chest.

Barebone functionality? Damn right. Still works? You bet. Last 10 minites in a shop? LMAO NOPE. I will be buying some US general boxes eventually, but because I need a box to hop from shop to shop until i find my place, if it lasts win-win lol

But im on the lookout for Macsimizer Or FIRE and ICE snap on box... RIP WALLET

I agree with you, money is too hard to earn to buy something 10 times and then rebuild something brand new. Learned a LONG time ago, you can't get something from nothing and you get what you pay for in quality.

Don't know where you're shopping - all the 5 drawer carts I've seen have been in good shape on the floor, but to be fair, your logic is like comparing a floor model laptop with missing keys and a broken screen to one in someone's house. Where can I go to see a floor model blue point or snap on that's been on display for 10 years with everyone that touches it trying to see if "enter part here" will break easily???? People come in here and call everything junk, no matter who makes it, or how well it's actually made.. at some point they should consider if they are just way too hard on the stuff they own.

Also People own houses that have seen family's of 4 or more grow up in them with kitchens that are 50 years old, that have cabinet drawers with cheap wooden slides survive toddlers, teenagers, and frustrated parents. I have faith the HF carts can survive just fine.

I see your point Kctyphoon, but laptops are frail out the gate, and past buyers just need those missing items for their own model. For a tool cart that is unable to be moved, its nuts to me to see the condition for something thats supposed to last. The HF Manager is sending wrong message leaving the busted stuff on display. And I admitted its better than anything I got now. I just wanted the soft drawer slides. Lol i cant even update the slides on any of my Boxes... no ball bearings either. I own the junk people bash here but it serves my purposes for now.

Houses again are different than a tool cart. Cause it could be built bare minimum out the gate and the last 4 families have been trying to fix it right. I dont want a tool cart i need to update when i can get the 44” inch bottom and top chest for the bluepoint money. If i can find a used tool chest from the Tool trucks ill strive for those first.

Dont worry, Ill post pics of my HF 5 drawer Tool cart when i finally break down LOL

Well if you don't want yours, send it here.. the 5 drawer carts are very robust and parts are readily available if the need were to arise. The point I was trying to make is that things need to be used within their limitations, and if the HF 5 drawer cart can't survive it's owner, there's no evidence suggesting that the blue point will either.

Also, the HF has a bit more storage than the blue point it appears.. not to mention $900 w/shipping vs $150 when on sale. Not sure how anyone can possibly find fault in the HF with that kinda price difference.

I just tried to buy a 4 drawer cart from HF but nobody has any.. I just wanted the drawer unit to add to my husky cart. Looks like the 4 drawers are getting replaced too.

No.. they had a parking lot sale to blow out on stock.. all local stores have 0 in stock and there are none in the warehouse, so that leads me to believe that's it for them. And HF won't sell the floor model until they get told to.

This is not mine, but someone on the forum stacked 2 4 drawer carts together and made this.. genius idea. I just saved the picture cause I liked it. Sunex shelf and prybar holder added, along with some custom stuff like the outlets. Best mod of a HF cart I've seen.

In general I do not believe he is a paid shill I think he's just a guy who is into tools and video production making money off affiliate links like a lot of others. I'm sure HF vs. Snap-On videos get a lot of search and suggested traffic so without any paid advertising involved there's a big incentive for YouTubers to make more of them. I do sort of wonder about this though. If he A. knows they are using his video this way, B. if he authorized it, and C. if he is being compensated for it. I'm surprised there are no disclaimers or qualifiers on it anywhere. There's a gray space between a company finding your video on social media and retweeting it or sharing it on their Facebook saying like "Hey look what somebody did" and making up marketing graphics using your video and using it in their email marketing. There's probably no way for us to really know for sure. Does anyone else remember HF doing something like this when his HF Earthquake vs. Snap-On video was blowing up with popularity?

In my opinion there's no way he A.) Doesn't know they're using the video B.) didn't authorize it and C.) is not being compensated for it. There's no way for them to go plaster his video on that email page without at least a formal agreement of "Hey can we use your video" which would increase views for him certainly.

Does that mean his videos are **** or wrong tho? In my opinion, no. If I get paid by Chevy to go review their new ZR1 against a Lamborghini Aventador and I come to the conclusion that one car is 1/4 of the price of the other, both with 700+ HP, the cheaper car comes with much more torque, and have similar lap times around a track, who cares who paid me? The numbers speak for themselves.

The only thing left out would be metal gauge or max drawer weights right? Neither of those are going to be much different, so the pros and cons speak for themselves in my opinion, just one has a 4x higher pricetag while serving the same function and being all around similar. I'll buy the cheap workhorse in the vette, personally.

Look like two posts above yours and I showed where he said they emailed him to ask if they could use it. I don't think he is being compensated though beyond possible affiliate sales if he's in their affiliate program. Even so I bet most people would watch it and buy in store rather than buy it online with a link.

Anyhow though it's definitely possible for your video to be used in ways you didn't expect or approve and your options are to legal up and possibly sue someone (waste of money) or let it be. I've found a few cases where people have written their own article around my videos and embedded them where it looks like it's their video. I still get the YouTube hits for it (though no ad revenue) so I don't really mind but it is odd. The worst part is people comment on those articles asking questions and I wish they'd just ask them on the video where I can easily respond.

Also I agree that being paid wouldn't make his observations or statements there wrong. It would however fall afoul of the FTC guidelines for social media endorsements and that's a strong reason for me to believe he was not compensated. His website has a thorough and well crafted disclosure for all affiliate and brand relationships on it and so it's clear he knows what he's doing in that respect. To have a hidden full on sponsor video would be pretty bad given that there's no possibility of feigning ignorance.

Yah by the time I finished typing my ****** analogy the thread had progressed quite a bit :D

I'm pretty sure you can approach those websites and have the videos/posts removed rather easily tho, no?

Well, I'm not sure if a DMCA applies in these cases. The reason it's weird is because it's an embedded video or even just a link to the video. They aren't hosting my video and they didn't like download and reupload it they just embedded the YouTube player. It plays from my channel like always. Same way I do it on my own website. I just checked and the two I found last year are both gone. The domain expired for the site so it was probably just some random fly-by-night operation but the sites (Portabandstore and American Tool Supply) looked reasonably legit. I wouldn't have even thought anything of it beyond "cool!" that someone had shared my video like that except for the way they'd written an article around it as if the video was theirs illustrating the points in the article. That felt a bit wrong.

Same way with Harbor Freight, IF they did this without asking him (he already stated they emailed and asked him) and he didn't like it I don't know that there's much to do about it. You can't really ask people to stop linking to your site and you want people to link to you it's almost always a good thing but it's just a bit of a weird spot to be in.

YouTube's TOS are not that complicated, no real reason to debate what they can or can't do.

For clarity, you retain all of your ownership rights in your Content. However, by submitting Content to YouTube, you hereby grant YouTube a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, sublicenseable and transferable license to use, reproduce, distribute, prepare derivative works of, display, and perform the Content in connection with the Service and YouTube's (and its successors' and affiliates') business, including without limitation for promoting and redistributing part or all of the Service (and derivative works thereof) in any media formats and through any media channels. You also hereby grant each user of the Service a non-exclusive license to access your Content through the Service, and to use, reproduce, distribute, display and perform such Content as permitted through the functionality of the Service and under these Terms of Service. The above licenses granted by you in video Content you submit to the Service terminate within a commercially reasonable time after you remove or delete your videos from the Service. You understand and agree, however, that YouTube may retain, but not display, distribute, or perform, server copies of your videos that have been removed or deleted. The above licenses granted by you in user comments you submit are perpetual and irrevocable.

Ah yeah I see what you're saying. Just embedding a video or linking to your website/video probably doesn't apply, you're right.

Now the real debate others will have is whether or not hes lying and as you mentioned not following FTC guidelines, there was big drama with this in the CSGO gaming/better scene a while back too :D

Back on topic I don't even need a damn cart, what am I doing here?

Actually one thing that bugs me is Snap-On list vs HF. If we do apples to apples the BP cart goes on promo for around $600. Similarly if I ship the HF to my house like he did with the Snap-On I have to pay $300 total. Its sensationalism in tool reviews.

I finally sat and watched the whole thing, and it felt like a Harbor Freight commercial. No way this dude isn't a paid shill.

That said, I'd probably buy the HF cart over the BP now that they come on blue. Would match the blue on my Snap On box. :rocker:

How many people buy toolboxes shipped from HF? I've never heard of going to the Blue Point store, and I've never heard of anyone having a HF toolbox shipped. There is a pro in the category of having a brick and mortar store to pick it up from and save on the shipping. Nobody would talk about the shipping price of a Craftsman box either for the same reason. It's sensationalism in posting.

The point being that if "I" want a HF cart, I have a national chain, and about 4 stores within reason that I can go buy one. If "I" wanted a blue point, I have no choice but to order it from the website.. the only tool truck making stops at my house is the U.P.S truck.. that said - your STILL at double the cost - and that STILL isn't enough for you??

How many people buy tool boxes shipped from Snapon.com?

The Blue-Point store is called a Snap-On truck. Call up ready to pay full list and im sure a dealer would of been happy to deliver it to his doorstep unboxed and ready to go, and before you mention it, yes he absolutely has a dealer in his area based off old videos.

He quite literally goes out of his way to pay retailers at opposite ends of the price range as possible. This is called sensationalism. A normal review would of been comparing the HF to a comparable unit from Napa ($350).

You're on Staten island. Call the 1800 number for a dealer to contact you regarding a $800 cart and see what happens.

No thanks.. they can kept there $60 cart that they sell for $800.. :lol_hitti
It should be the other way around - where a brick and mortar store has the more expensive markups compared to a website run business.. that's my other gripe with the hole snap on thing - I will never benefit from a tool truck service, yet if I order off the website, pay full retail - I still pay the markup for the truck drivers..

"The Blue-Point store is called a Snap-On truck."

And how many people have access to a Snap-On truck compared to how many have access to walking in to one of the 800+ Harbor Freight stores to buy a box?

The US General line is available to all who walk through the doors, the Blue Point line does not have that accessibility, unless you want to order online.

I had a red HF 5-drawer cart a few years ago that I used everyday while working on forklifts. The box served me well and I had no issues what-so-ever.

I sold the box to a friend at work who uses it in his garage. Its in perfect condition still.

I'm retired now, but will be purchasing another HF 5-drawer soon. I'm looking to by a blue one for the garage. Probably get a red or black one also. Plan to dedicate them to specific tasks.

Wow this turned ugly fast.

Tool Trucks got too confy with mechanics that threw money at them from what seems like an eternal garden of money trees... when I started seeing KD tools and OEM and Lisle tools showing up on the trucks, I stopped “buying what they were selling”, like when a heckler yells out a magician’s secrets.

The core tools yeah, still good, some boxes (i still want one) can get some of my resources, but magic gone. Harbor Freight is good for basic and middlepack stuff, but the more i follow this thread... the less i want to get a box from A tool truck...

I totally agree, the RTR video is sensationalism at its worst. Some guy buys a $900 cart that no homeowner would ever buy. Makes a video with a title that is a direct copy from HF advertising, Then magically 4 days later that that video is used with HF advertising and is sent out in HF emails

Nothing strange or fishy about that at all. Totally unbiased review.

The Blue-Point carts are popular in the HD diesel shops up here, as they are cheap compared to the USA built carts and they have proper welded construction without those stupid drawer latches.

Here is a video showing a Blue-Point cart used by a HD diesel mechanic

The funny part is that same ad popped up in my inbox a couple of days ago with vid built into it, lol like “shameless plug much?”

I liked the infomercial treatment on the shelf not being attached, "OMG, I permanently destroyed my expensive tool!" ...then he buys bumpers from SO, modifies them to fit the HF cart. Which is a lot easier than drilling a couple holes and bolting the shelf down.

The HF cart is a great buy and I'd never buy a BP cart but this guy is a paid shill, he might as well be on the home shopping network.

Yeah, I was disappointed to see that. I think he loses credibility when his comparison video is rolled into a Harbor Freight sales email. :wtf:

I think he should have avoided the whole Snap on Versus Harbor Freight marketing angle, and compared the HF cart to a Homak, NAPA, or Sunex model. I think Harbor Freight sells quite a few of those carts, and from what I've read here, they seem to be a pretty good unit that doesn't require much convincing to get people to buy them :dunno:

I assume you've never seen his other vids. He does very in depth reviews on everything. His subscription numbers have exploded in the last year or two because of that I assume. He's also a member on here. His method has always been to explain the features and show what each product offers, not slam one to endorse another.. if he's making enough money doing it to drive a $65,000 truck and buy a small building to do more reviews, then good for him. Better than laying on your back killing yourself for a living. Stop hating.

If he's validating claims that HF makes when he compares the same products they do in their advertising, that's hardly being a shill.. it would be something else all together if he was lying. Consumers being educated on MASSIVE markup based solely on a name is hardly a bad education to have while people blindly throw money at products thinking that price gets them something. Where are snap on's demos, or the YouTube reviews showing their sockets and wrenches removing bolts that their competitors can't? Those videos don't exist do they?

Seems a fair comparison to me comparing two massive price differences for similar product, plenty people compare US General boxes to truck brands so this no different.
At end of day it just a free youtube vid, you should use your own judgement on what you buy and think sensible product value.
I personally don't see BP good value, maybe 400bucks at the most.
For a tool cart I wouldn't want spend more than that, my 2 used matcos and end cabinets cost me very little and no way could I spend serious money on a little chinese made trolley lol, spending 400 to 800 bucks on useful tools different story ...

I'm still trying to figure out why so many "grown people" are making such a huge ordeal out of this video. Opinions and advertising. That's what it boils down to. Needs and what you are comfortable with. My money, your money. It's that simple

If you pay attention, it's almost always the same people getting upset whenever SO or HF is brought up within the same thread. It's always been that way around here, Certain members dislike all that is Import, others dislike made in the USA, some despise HF and others anything Tool truck related. IMO if you can't have a open mindset toward other people views or needs, your credibility is ****. It's somewhat comical watching these members try and justify there opinion as fact simply by attrition, being the top poster in a particular thread or the last response prior to the thread being locked doesn't mean your stance has been validated.

And I love the politely condensing comments that always seem to come from the same people solely to exclude themselves into belonging to part of a more mature, "better than you" audience, but still can't stop themselves from posting just to remind the peasants of their level of self image. At least they don't use every post for their own advertising.. I wonder which posts are worse??

For the record, I like RTR.. he has the most informative reviews instead of other guys that just read off the box.

Hearing that guy talk made me shut it off real quick.
His voice is comparable to two cats fu#$ing.

The music on the start of it will make nails on a chalkboard sound good.

At the end of the day - he gets paid for the video and it is biased to whoever gives him stuff.
