I've been looking and can't find what I need, I don't see any locks with just a hooked rod to go to the back of the box

Post a picture of the lock cylinder. Are yours broken or do you just not have the key? If you don't have the key, take the picks up a lock smith and they can make you one.

The lock is broken and missing. The original owner of the box broke it some how which is one reason he got rid of it plus he got a larger box. So now I'm just trying to fix it

Not sure if it's worth replacing such locks. Such cylinders are basically useless.

That said, from a Swiss POW where many entrance doors cylinders are KABA 20 or even KABA STAR (or maybe some KESO for the Zeiss Ikon profile) typical U.S. door cylinders are just cheap toys, especially those integrated in the spherical door knobs.

BTW Those door knobs are something very typically U.S., you won't find here excepted maybe in cheap Italian/Spanish/Portuguese tourist bungalows of for furniture doors. Another oddity are the lateral and the bottom gaps of U.S. toilet doors but that's another topic. :)

This thread may get you a place to start, too bad the pix are dead

Almost any lock that fits in the hole, and is deep enough should work. It's the silly U shaped piece you will have trouble with. You need a lock cylinder where you can screw on your cam. The ones below are for holding a lid closed.

This claims to fit, but the "cam" is wrong.

I don't see why you could not make the U piece yourself, but maybe a locksmith can supply one .

Something like this may work, just need an inline coupler to join it to your rod going to the back of the cabinet.

I replaced mine with a Craftsman cylinder. I had to grind the rod to fit, but it works. I used this box daily from 2015 until 2019 and now its in my garage still no issues.
