I've seen a few posts on here about people combining the US General boxes - more than just bolting a side cabinet on. Apparently Harbor Freight is taking notice of the trend.

Do you recommend these boxes? I have a small rolling unit for the driveway that works well but considering a pretty big setup of these based on the HF ad and the 25% coupon.

Thanks

Chris -

I think the concensus here is they are a great box for the money. Yes, there are a handful of shop techs who make their living out of their tool boxes and they will push for a heftier SnapOn box, but for a homeowner (or a tech who is stationary in one bay) the HF boxes are a super value.

....and no I don't own one.

The boxes are excluded from the coupons along with welders and generators and everything else you really want to save on. lol

.... HF probably has someone watching posts here and on pintrest for ideas...
If someone from HF is reading this, we need a cheaper alternative to Schaller bins so that we can use HF cabinets to store fasteners and small parts.

I noticed the other day my wife's yogurt containers might come in handy. Now to get to wash and save them.

Can the new 7 drawer end cabinet be attached unmodified to the new 56" or 72"? I assume it must be since there is only one model of side locker but it's pictured with each of the 3 roller cabs. But has anyone tried it in the real world?

Unfortunate that they did not set the 3 different size cabs to have the same size casters, would make it more feasible to use different size cabs. The 26 & 44 have 5" and the 56 & 72 have 6" casters. The older 26"bottom is taller than the old 44", haven't thought yet to measure the new ones. All their examples are symmetric, which is nice in a way but I think a lot of that is to sell the side locker, arguably the most profitable of all the pieces.

I mean, this was the plan the whole time. They just can't get all the sizes in all the colours into the stores to sell them this way.

I have seen photos of the side lockers on a 56 they aren't quite as nice match as they are on the 44. My new orange side lockers should be here early next week and I will get photos of them on my new 44 box for reference.

Although the boxes are excluded from the 20%+ off any item coupons, the US General boxes are excellent boxes that compete extremely well in terms of quality against top brands and to my knowledge they have no competition in the price point to quality ratio that they're in. As they're priced very reasonably. Check out Real Tool Reviews on youtube comparing the US General cart to the Blue Point cart. Blue point is way more expensive of course but doesnt even match the US General in terms of quailty. And to add insult to injury, the US General is a 5 drawer cart where the Blue Point is a 4 drawer. The 4 drawer US General is $109.99.

I thought about using two 56ers back to back (they're 22in deep) with a 44 across the end on a base welded up from angle to make a SuperTacoWagon...

or two back to back '72's with a 44 across each end.. ;)

They also have 4 bolts into the 44 base cabinet. Looks like if I want to put any handles on it I would need to grind off the little nubs on the new handles. Not sure I will bother as I won't roll this around much once I get my remodeling done
