I keeping see all these ads for all the various box sizes in all the colors, but I've only seen the tool cart in the new colors at my local store. I'd buy a 26 and a 44 in green if I ever see one.

Same here, have yet to see anything in person. I'll see coupons on their site for the 26 and 44, up one day but down the next. All three of my local stores only have the 5 drawer tool cart and folding side trays in the 6 colors. I had one store run the SKU for the orange 26" lower. It showed as a good number but 0 inventory anywhere around. I'm definitely buying, just waiting for them to actually arrive.

Maybe soon ..... ?

Mowerdoctor - thanks for sharing that pic. Hope to get mine in the mail soon. BTW, I think the Lex store is one of the best stocked around.

I wonder what I can get for my used but excellent red ones? That, or I need to figure out how to repaint all of my old ones. I have two 44's a side add-on, and a top box. Man, if they were all yellow...

I've been critical of Harbor Freight on this board, but here's one reason why I'm glad HF is around. Toolbox cabinets are usually wildly overpriced (even on Amazon). Think about what you're buying--an empty metallic cabinet (on wheels) with drawers.

I'm sure I'll eventually buy one of these HF toolbox cabinets.

I faced a similar dilemma. I had the Gen I series 44" cabinet and two of the 18" side cabinets.

I didn't want to deal with attempting to resell and purchase the newer depth ones in black [as this was before they offered even more color options], and I also have some larger Husky boxes...so I just kept the Gen I red boxes and painted them flat black to match my Husky boxes. The depth on these boxes worked for me going on 10 years now...so just stuck with what I had.

I figure I can now upgrade to some green units as the garage space allows and everything will flow nicely between the flat black boxes and possibly some new green units.

One of my friends just bought a 52" Craftsman set a couple of weeks ago from Lowes. Not many drawers so he tried to find two side boxes. Gone. Discontinued.
I told him he was nuts for buying Craftsman instead of a US General. You get so much more for the money. I have an older red Husky setup. A 41" upper and lower with two sides. Ive owned it since '03 or '05. My wife actually bought it for me and surprised me with it one night. If I didnt have that I would pick up one of the 56" sets from HF. I think for a homeowner theyre fine.

I have the old style 44'' ones with side boxes and a cart. Money well spent when you could use the 20% off coupon. They were heavier material constructed back then. Great value for the $$$$.

Even my old red 44's don't match, with one being dull finish, and the rest are shiny. It probably wouldn't be all that much work to just paint the outsides of them. I don't care what color they are inside. I don't really care what color the outside is, either, but I'm retired now, so I think more about this stuff.

I have been thinking about another box. A good friend bought the 44" HF unit for $399 at the parking lot sale recently. I saw it in his work shop, and I think it is very nice and feels sturdy, drawers smooth, etc. I kind of wished I had gone with him, he and another guy went since the closest HF is over an hour away.

Last night I was bored and the missus is out of town so I decided to check out Home Depot and Lowes clearance racks. They were both a bust. My Lowes has been redoing the tool area. It was chaos about 2 weeks ago, but it is getting close now. I asked the guy where the clearance tools were and he said they are going to finish the remodel and then pull the old tools out of the back onto clearance racks. I am guessing the employees will get the first pick.

In the meantime, I checked out the tool boxes in both. The Husky 52" combo ($598) felt sturdy like the HF unit and the drawers were also smooth. It came with drawer liners. I looked online, and I am not sure this is available right now, so maybe it was a floor model. It seemed like a lot of chest for the money. I would be interested in any real world experience with this box as my tool addiction is drawing me back toward the store.

I also looked at the new Craftsman made in usa with global parts boxes at Lowes. I am partial to these as my existing boxes are older (80's/90's) made in US roller bearing Craftsman boxes which have served me well. I have to say they felt flimsier than either the HF or the Husky, and the drawers were not as smooth. Maybe I was just expecting the worst. I would also be interested in real world feedback on these units.

Thanks to all, Bruce

One of my friends just bought a tool cart from HF and they wouldnt give him the 20%. The girl at the register said they dont apply it to tool storage. Guess its hit or miss at these stores.

It has been that way for years. It isn't hit or misa

The other poster must be referring to something from quite a while ago.

Back in the day, the 20% applied to anything.

Exactly, lol!

Just two weeks ago, I sold my red 5 drawer cart with folding side tray on CL. Sold it in a day. Got it at the parking lot sale last March (2018) for $149.99 plus a 20% off coupon for the side tray. Thanks to the gradual price increases over the last year (due to new colors, etc), I was able to sell it at one year old and not lose a dime on it.

Waiting on the new colors of the bigger boxes!

My best guess is that the rainbow of tool carts are displayed because:
A: from an inventory standpoint, its relatively inexpensive to display one of each color cart as compared to the top/bottom combos or the 72" boxes.
and
B: the footprint of the display itself leaves more floor space for showcasing the rest of their ****, while still allowing the customer to see all them purty colors in person, in case they wanna buy the big one.

When I moved up to my 72/56 at home, I sold my 44 stack on CL in a day for more than I paid for it on Black Friday sale.

I find myself coveting the new colors....may have to get a 26 for a rollaround.

The colors are going to go like hotcakes!

I'm an old school guy, only like my red Snap-on boxes, but the yellow tools at HF look cool. THey match the colors my race cars would be when I had my choice.

Those are my boxes. They are VERY close in color. The cart is EVER so slightly lighter but they match great.
Very nice setup you have there. Sorry I didn't remember whose it was to attribute it to you!

I have a yellow KRL with black trim and now that these US General boxes are coming out in yellow I'm contemplating adding a 26" lower to my garage to free up some room in it. I looked at one in the store last night and the only thing I'm concerned about is the drawer trim might be kind of difficult to remove so I can paint it black.

Im actually planning on taking the writing surface piece from my SO box into my HF store soon to see how close the yellows are. I'm thinking they are almost identical.

The drawer trim on the HF comes right off. Mine had no adhesive. I used automotive fender trim, but I discovered that if you flip over the original drawer trim, it's black except for a tiny bit of chrome showing. Try it and see if you're happy with it before buying/painting trim.

So I may be the only person out there interested in the differences between the new U.S. General yellow and Snap-on ultra yellow but just in case I'll share my comparison.

I took the writing surface steel plate from my Snap-on KRL box into my local HF. First I compared it to the yellow of the U.S. General Series 2 cart and indeed there is a slight difference. The yellow on the cart (the right side in this pic) is ever so slightly darker. b843d999ebbccb4e8d56a66a9e0301ac.jpg I'm not interested in one of these carts but the slight difference would probably be negligible. I did end up asking an associate if we could just open the top of the carton for the 26" yellow lower they had in stock up by the register as I suspected there may be a color variance between the carts and the new boxes. Sure enough, it looks like the yellow on all the new toolboxes, lockers and side cabinets will indeed be a much closer match as it's slightly brighter. I think that can be seen in this pic.2bf60ba7c203bcc126bf6d9dc8d55253.jpgI couldn't be 100% sure without actually buying one of the boxes and setting them side by side, but im pretty sure the yellow on the Series 2 U.S. General toolboxes is almost an exact match to SO's Ultra Yellow.

For the coupon price of $239 I'm thinking a 26" lower in yellow will look right at home in my garage for nuts/bolts, small parts and consumables storage to free up some much needed room in my main box. I'll be sure to go back and post a pic or two in this thread if/when I pull the trigger on it.

My dreams...
I am planning on selling my red 72, my old 44 HF stack and an old craftsman 26 stack to get a 72 roller, 56top, end cabinet x2, end box, and 26 top, all in green!
<a href="https://ibb.co/f8Vsfvk"><img src="https://i.ibb.co/wJZfVsS/Plan.jpg" alt="Plan" border="0"></a><br /><a target='_blank' href='https://statewideinventory.org/bmw-0-60-times'></a><br />

Overkill for me and my needs, but I can grow into it!

I am envious of AngryBeaver and his beautiful tool box setup
This will be my poor mans rendition of it.

Dont harp on my mspaint skills!
PS:
Anyone interested in a like new Red 72"HF box and is local to ATL, shoot me a PM.
