Hello, I was wanting to put a 10000# lift in my shop and was looking to purchase either a Challenger, Rotary, or Coats. I was looking for recommendations for an affordable two post US made lift.
Thanks,
YC

If I were to buy, I would have them at the top of the list. I'm a few years away from purchase, however.

EDIT: As I've posted in many threads before: Most of our local shops that I'm in and out of often have Rotary Lifts. One has a Challenger, and I know an Eagle. He's moving and I asked if he would be selling the lifts. He said yes, but the Challenger is the best he currently has and he might keep it.

Unfortunately there aren't a lot of lifts manufactured in the U.S.A. There are quite a few that are outsourced for parts and assembled in the U.S.A. and are of good quality AND they are ALI certified.

The only one I know of that is fully manufactured and sold in the U.S.A is Mohawk. They are a great lift but they are spendy. I wish I could afford one because that would be my choice.

That being said, I have a 10k Ammco that I have had for about ten years now and has performed flawlessly and is ALI certified. Challenger is their sister lift and a few friends have them which are also very nice. Other ones I looked at were Rotary, Atlas, Bendpak and Forward all of which seemed like well put together lifts.

I tried to buy a made in the USA Challenger lift. I was even willing to pay the extra $1000 over a foreign made lift. After several eight week delays, culminated by a failure to properly notify of delivery, I gave up. I then drove twenty miles to a GregSmithEquipment outlet and purchased an in-stock Chinese made Atlas lift. It's a sad state of affairs when an American is willing to pay a premium for made in the USA and the manufacturer still fails to deliver.

I went Challenger, I'd do it again or go Rotary. Neither are 100% USA but are higher quality lifts compared to others.

If you have the cash, USA made Mohawk.

We have an old Mohawk at work, at least 30yrs old. It’s very well built, maybe even over built. It makes the China one in our clubhouse shop look like it was made with tin cans. If you’ve got the coin, definitely bragging rights with a Mohawk.

Warning: stop here if made in China is 100% out of question for you.

I have the Atlas Base Plate 10,000. Made in China. I bought it about 5 yrs ago from Greg Smith Auto.(gregsmithequipment .com). Even if you don't want to buy one, check out their website as they have a lot of good advice on lifts. The lift is the "Industrial" model and is well made and has a strong motor and pump. You can still get it for <$3000.00.

I am not able to post pics/links yet(new member restriction), but I have a 4 car pole barn style garage and got lucky that in one of the bays, the ceiling joists lined up with the door opening. The BP model height is about 2" under my ceiling joists. Worked out great. When lifted, the vehicle is centered between the joists.

I know people knock the BP models, but it really has only been just a slight inconvenience. The 3 times I have pulled transmissions, I took up the metal wedge shaped cover and laid some wood down to cover the cables/lines. To not go BP style, I would have had to modify trusses. I am weekend warrior only, so no need for all that action.

I'd say mine has been up/down between 500-1000 times and no issues. I did find several anchors loosened up a bit in the first year, so watch that.

I just purchased a Derek Weaver W-Pro10 on Monday, and picked up on Thursday. I haven’t installed it yet, but it seems to be very high quality. They are a US company, but have factories “worldwide”, including China. I’m honestly not sure where mine was manufactured. I’m ok with that, because it is ALI certified, and backed by a reputable company. As a bonus, Rotary is listed as the manufacturer on the ALI certification.

I liked my Atlas BP8000 that I got from Greg Smith Equipment. Chinese but high quality and GSE can provide parts if you needed them. Had to go to a 4 post when I moved due to the wood floor in the 1890s carriage house (have some steel beams underneath).

I love how the roof is cut out (and framed) to fit the grand national.
