US made Torque wrenches?

I'm looking to purchase a pair of Torque wrenches, a 5-75 ft.lbs and something with low settings, perhaps 2-20 ft.lbs or equivalent in inch pounds. Are there any quality items that are still built in the USA with US parts?

CDI and Precision Instrument are both excellent. CDI seems to be a little more available, but Precision Instruments is SLIGHTLY more accurate if you compare the spec sheets. I tried to find a 0-300 inch pound dial type torque wrench about a month ago, couldn't find a supplier with Precision Instruments in stock so I ended up buying the CDI. I am VERY happy with my purchase, and I don't think the extra 1% accuracy of the PI would be worth whatever lead time and price increase i would have had to go through to obtain it.

I've heard nothing but good things about the Precision Instruments split beam style torque wrenches, if you are after a more traditional "clicky" type instead of a dial.

Central Tools is out of Rhode Island. I really like mine. I got it off of Amazon a while back. The price is still low, too.

Not all GW are US made. The higher dollar ones are, the less expensive are from Taiwan, I think.

I used to drive past this place all the time. I love their split beam torque wrenches and would not buy anything else. However, for your low torque needs they may not work. You may need one of their other models.

Do not overlook English and German torque wrenches, they are quality tools also.

Low torque work would be done in lb/in or possibly even oz/in. Beam type torque wrenches are better for this, certainly cheaper, generally more accurate, +/- 2%, clickers are usually +/- 4% or 6% unless you want to pay a lot more.

Applications

Tapered and Flat Beam torque wrenches are excellent choices for any application where:

The ability to visually confirm that the tool is correct before each use is important.
The application is such that the user can see the faceplate of the tool.
Greater accuracy than that provided by clicker torque wrenches is desired.
It is important to know torque variation during rundown, as with prevailing torque nuts.
There is a destructive nature to the application.
The peak torque is of importance.
These needs are common in aircraft assembly and maintenance operations, fastener testing (in-process/final/receiving inspection) for prevailing torque nuts, and assembly compliance testing for products with rotating components. For these and similar operations, Flat Beam and Tapered Beam torque wrenches are often the best tool for the job.

The Husky tourqe wrenches at Home Depot in 3/8 and 1/2 are USA. Same as Gearwrench and Matco at a MUCH BETTER price. I have both. Pretty nice for the money. I paid 75 for the 3/8 and 85 for the 1/2. ot bad for USA made tourqe wrenches.

CDI makes some nice click type wrenches, used them in an Air Force avionics shop. They were calibrated to some tight specs, 2% mostly.

I'll 2nd the Precision instruments AKa torguewrench .com I purchased a 1/2" 50-250lbs recently and its an exact copy of a snap on my son even showed it to his snap on dealer.
I found it on amazon way cheaper than the web site price

The cheapest version of the GW torque wrenches are sold as Husky, and they are US made. Yet to see any non-USA torque wrenches from them.

Same wrenches are sold as Matco, Armstrong, Gearwrench and Husky.

I've had bad luck with Precision Instruments. I have a 10-50 ft-lbs one (actually 120-600 in-lbs IIRC) and it is not accurate. Results are all over the place, but when set to say 25 ft-lbs it registers around 23. It is normally 2-3 ft-lbs off throughout the scale. My beam is nuts on, and I mean nuts, you shoot for 25 ft-lbs it returns 25.1. My el cheapo clicker (HF special) is also more consistent and accurate than the PI.

Never too late to buy the 3/8 and 1/2 from home depot made in the USA; Be careful the 1/4 is made overseas. Not sure how long they will carry them, keep in mind the early bird gets the worm kind of thing with those big box stores.

They do. PI used to. CDI now has "A Snap On Industrial Brand" printed on the packaging.

My local HD still has the USA made units. I did not see an + or -% accuracy figure or certification indication on the packaging, it appears it might be in the instructions. Can anyone share these figures/info? Are these totally made in the US with US components or just assembled here?
