Depends on the ratchet itself (who the OEM was for it). More than likely it will be a Danaher product, so you should be able to use a Craftsman, Napa, etc.

That's what I thought the head looks just like a craftsman.
Where can I get cheap rebuild kits?

As much as you may want to keep your USA made ratchet, the 72T Taiwan Kobalt ratchets are not only stronger, but have better action, less back drag and a much smaller swing arc.

if it looks like this, trade it in for a new Taiwan ratchet. don't spend money on it.

i am no craftsman lover. not even a huge fan of that style ratchet but i have used them. the sk, napa, kobalt, etc., etc, etc., versions that have that style of direction lever seem to be built to a little better standard. whatever they did to the craftsman, be it poorly made parts, poorly machined handles, they are ****. those others, not nearly as much.

I wonder why some people get so aggressive?
On other threads I have I was just asking about rebuild kits and where to them
And I might as well have just went somewhere else to ask.
I guess because I don't have a lot of truck brand tools they can talk me down.

I don't think anyone is being aggressive. You have posted a lot of questions that have been asked 1,000,000,000,000 times and you would have found your answers of you would have done a search. It has nothing to do with truck brands.

They are giving you advice to help you get the best possible tool. Nobody's attacking you or your tool collection. If you're going to take part on ANY forum on the internet, grow some thicker skin. No sense getting insulted for nothing. This is a forum for discussion, not a place where we are obligated to give you the exact answer you want.

i kindly disagree on this. when the op asks a simple question that should give the topic a certain tone or path to go on. why shouldn't he get an answer that pertains to his question. it may not be good news or the answer he would like but he should get an answer that is on topic

it gets really old when someone asks a simple question and the most popular answer is "use the search function" when it doesn't work that well and the second most popular answer is "buy brand x because you are cheap and a hack if you don't".

maybe bull and lump are the smart ones taking a break from the same old ********.

For the record, I don't own any truck brand tools. I have many craftsman ratchets built identical to your Kobalt ratchet. I also have acquired over time a selection of newer kobalt, Stanley, duralast, and Pittsburgh ratchets. I haven't touched my 36 tooth craftsman ratchets since. I was not trying to be aggressive. I was just saying you would benefit from exchanging it for a Taiwan Kobalt ratchet. If you were local, I would even trade you straight up for a craftsman so I could exchange it for a new Kobalt ratchet. As for finding a rebuil d kit, Google is your friend.... and won't be aggressive.

And he is correct on the Taiwan Kobalt Ratchets. I have 2 1/4" and 2 3/8" QR models, and they're as smooth as any other ratchets I have.

I'm glad some one spoke up for this simple question.

Moral of this story is people get sick of the same ol questions being asked over and over. This was information that an easy search would have found. What makes this worse (in my opinion anyway) is the need to create a second thread asking where to buy craftsman rebuild kits, and a third complaining about chinese craftsman warranty exchange.

when it doesn't work that well and the second most popular answer is "buy brand x because you are cheap and a hack if you don't".

The statement was not "buy X brand...". It was "exchange your broken ratchet for a better, FREE replacement. DO NOT spend money on a repair kit." It was an attempt at good, useful advise.

A forum (by definition) is a place for open discussion. The people posting here were trying to be helpful. The OP however seems to just be wasteful, but to answer the question, EBAY has plenty rebuild kits available for craftsman ratchets. For roughly the same cost, you can also find a NOS (new old stock) USA Kobalt ratchet. Take the internals out of that to fix yours or just keep the new one and send that broken one my way for giving you the information you were seeking and I'll trade it in for a better ratchet for FREE.

Had this 1/2"dr ratchet for many years now. Since the late 90s or early 2000s IIRC. I think it came with a set of 1/2 deep Kobalt sockets I bought at Lowes. Is this a Williams era Kobalt ratchet? Or Danaher?

That’s the Williams.
Good to know. :)

It's been a solid ratchet over the years if a bit clunky compared to today's designs. I'm going to guess 36 tooth. And it's never been treated particularly well. Spent most of its time buried with a bunch of other tools in a plastic tuffbox under the lift-out-tray and hauled around in one work truck after another and used mostly by whoever I had working in it at the time. Surprised it never grew legs like a lot of other tools in that box has.

Maybe Ebay. That's where I bought several for my old Craftsman teardrop-shaped RP ratchets. Some were as high as $25 each and the ones I bought were $10 each.
