Just like the title says, anyone know of or seen a US made can opener?

Had to replace a broken on today. Looked in a few stores for one made in the USA. In the end I wound up buying one that was made in Taiwon.

I did see a couple of them online and ordered three of them, going to give one to a friend and keep one on the shelf just in case.

Will keep me eye out for one in the local stores.

Anyone seen any others?

I have a pocket knife that is made in the USA, I sometimes use it as a can opener....

But in all seriousness, is there a quality difference in can openers? Or are you trying more to be patriotic and to support our workers?

Ironically I went thought this looking for a Christmas gift last week. Are you looking for a hand or electric can opener.

As far as hand can openers go the best one by majority vote is the swing-a-way style / clones.

Unfortunatly most of the swing-a-ways are now made in china. I ended up buying a Chinese made one from Bed bath and beyond. As I could not find an old stock USA made swing-a-way in time for christmas. I must say it does work really well. One thing that caught me off guard was the product packaging has the typical "Product contains chemicals known to the state of california to cause cancer". Which I found to be really nerve wracking on a food product. Probably just some chemicals in the polymer grips, but nevertheless.

This..
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B007DK6SG0/?tag=atomicindus08-20

is about the only true USA made can-opener any more. Basically a Swing-a-way copy, made in the USA.

Here is what I ended up going with...

Recipient is happy with it, but I do wish it was made in the USA

And remember Google is your friend.

The one listed above from amazon is the real deal. It is made so much better than the other ones on the market. I have bought probably ten of them now and have given the away to friends that had previously been opening cans with imported ****.

I have a couple of those pocket knives myself. Although I have opened many cans of beefaroni in the field with them, my wife would probably string me up for even suggesting she use a pocket knife for everyday use in her kitchen.

In all seriousness, lately I have ramped up my efforts to NOT purchase anything from China and preferably from the USA. Somethings are easier than others to find made in the USA.

I agree, whenever I can, I will purchase US made stuff. They are getting harder to come by, but still there.

I like the look of the one from Amazon.

Too true. This is by far the best hand-held design.
The California warning BTW, is probably because it is chrome plated.

Anyway, the best manual can opener you will find (not hand-held though), is the Rival Can-O-Mat. Look on eBay for a nice old one.
