Somewhere along the way of raising me and my brother and moving into a new home, my father has lost most of his pliers that I remember him having when I was growing up. With the death of Craftsman as a respected brand, what options are out there for a one stop shop for some needle nose, slip joint and channel lock pliers in a kit? He doesn’t need a ton of stuff, but it would be nice for him to have the basics I most likely lost as a boy. Especially when he calls me over to help work on something with/for him.

Channelock is a good choice. Made in USA, affordable, offered in sets and decent quality. A step up would be Klein or Snap On.

In my opinion, "one stop shop" is not the best way to shop. Better to shop each part separately to get the best and/or the best price. You just missed some good Amazon Klein Tools and Zoro coupon sales but they pop up often enough if you are patient.

Menards has a nice deal for a 3 piece set for $25 ($22.24 after rebate). That works out to around $7.40 for each of the 3 tools. Even the screwdriver is made in the USA. -->

Why not get channellocks from Channellock?? ;)

I also have needle nose from both Klein and Channellock. Both companies do the side cutters on them a little different. Channellock is edge and anvil whereas Klein is edge and edge. Both types have their pluses and minuses. The Klein is definitely better looking but both are good quality tools.

For slip joint, I highly recommend finding the discontinued Channellock 548 (or 546, 516, 537, 5410). They are sort of the poor man's talon grip since they have the teeth up front similar to Snap-on.

You might also check out the slip joint pliers from Wilde. Some (but not all) of the slip joint pliers from Proto and Tekton are rebranded Wilde. They lack the aggressive teeth of the Channellock 548 but Wilde has a line with a flush joint that could be useful in some situations.

All of the Tekton slip joint and groove joint pliers are USA made (by Wilde I believe). Their needle nose and cutters are made in Taiwan.

Snap on makes very good set if you need the American. Honestly Knipex is better because cheaper. Snap on silly with price.

But you are weak with sentimentality and buying for father. Do not pinch pennies with gift for fatther. Father needs respect.

This is good:

Snap on heavy duty and in green. Green good color for weak with sentimentality man like yourself and good brand for father for respect.

Be man

This made my morning lol
