Looks like the majority Megapro drivers are "built" in the USA. Don't know where the components are manufactured, however.

Canada or US, either or is the best option. Then comes Japanese and German although I think Japanese tools, especially pliers, have great quality at a reasonable price. German tools in general are great, just appear to be unnecessarily over engineered for little extra benefit. Other Asian brands can be ok, but their steal quality is questionable. I think Ave does a good job of pointing out the inferiority of certain products coming out of these countries.

Then again, they have monopolized the production of electric tools so I guess you could say they make the best cordless drills. Not like there’s really any other options our there to compare them too. Even those ‘assembled’ in the west have boards and switches- the real value - made there so i still consider those as those mostly made in Asia.

Your link is for the regular-size ratcheting, which is made in Canada. The regular-size ratcheting automotive is also made in Canada. I have the ratcheting automotive, too, and agree that it is quality. Awesome ratchet. Ratcheting mechanism feels as smooth as Snap On.

However, in that post, we are specifically talking about the compact ratcheting, which is made in Taiwan. I called MegaPro after receiving the compact version, as it had no COO. They told me it was Taiwan and a couple other posters ITT confirmed the same.

Hope that offers some clarification.

Somehow I overlooked this one. I keep my gunsmithing stuff separate and I forgot about it. Dunno if it counts or not.

Mfr Part: WRST4

That's a Williams

those are good drivers, i have each of the 3 T handles and the regular driver. Same mechanism as the Snap On.

Here are the multibit screwdrivers I have, most are a ratcheting type except for that grey craftsman. I have a few others not shown in this pic along with a Craftsman USA 14 piece screwdriver set and a Tekton red handle USA set.

I've got some of the Tekton hard handle USA screwdrivers and the attention to detail is excellent. The way the markings are aligned and the blades are clocked to the right position makes me happy.

Yes, they’re silent, but I have the red handle without the shaft. Ive been looking for magnetic shafts for them but I can only find those made by Gearwrench which I think is for the same screwdriver model that replaced the Armstrong version I have. Attached are the product pictures from cripes.

Other pic...
I saw that stubby driver at Ace recently. Removable square male shaft; female square within the handle. Are the SnapOn shafts not an option?

Not USA, but German-Made Craftsman. I think I got this at Harry Epstein:

Works well.

I've seen those on their site and I was wondering who made them. I see that WF was importer, and I also see a patent on it but I can't read it. Could you provide the patent number so I could look it up?

Schröder. The handle is very comfortable but the mechanism is as modern as a battleaxe. It’s the same mechanism as the Witte/Matco ratcheting screwdriver.

At Ace, really? Do you remember what brand it sold under?

I was thinking about if the SnapOn shafts would work but the shaft costs as much as 2 screwdrivers.

I posted these in another thread but not many views there. Last of an era.

Yes, it appears to be sourced from them. I didn’t see these offered on their website; any idea when they stopped making them?

I don't know. They still have similar products on their website --> https://spectools.com/product/skewdriver-pro-kit-model-spk-4040/

I don't know if they are still made in the USA. They might be old stock.

Some of their new stuff doesn't say the COO but it looks like it might be imported from China or Taiwan. Just a guess since the COO isn't provided. --> https://spectools.com/product/professional-rollerdriver-model-rgr-3003/

I have an assortment of USA made ratcheting drivers, loved them all when I bought them, I must have at least a dozen, one in every box. I don't know about you guys but I keep going for the one that has a battery, I do think about using them and I love the way they look. On an impulse buy I bought the Dewalt, works great, probably never use it. I'm sure I'll buy more, that's why we're on this site.

It’s not even available any longer, but the ScrewBall is the one and only ratcheting screwdriver I’ve ever owned. It’s got to be 40 y/o at this point and still going strong.

Isn’t it odd that there’s only 1 USA made ratcheting screwdriver made by SnapOn, maybe 2 if Proto still actively makes theirs. All other USA brands like SK, Wright, Mac, Matco, Tekton, Craftsman, Capri, Husky, Kobalt, Stanley, Milwaukee (not really American), Klein and all others either dont offer one or import from Taiwan/China from probably the same manufacturers there.

Not USA made but North American made, I just picked up a Megapro Auto ratcheting because I had a spot in a drawer for one & it looked nice enough. I just used it & so far I really like it, uses the standard bits, ss shaft & a very natural feel in hand. I am ordering 12 more for work I think the guys will like them, the on board bit storage is the best I've seen with a good assortment.

Lutz hasn't been made in USA in quite some time. Screwdrivers are either China or Taiwan. Their utility knives are made in China.

I thought the Gorilla Glue Company bought Lutz. What do the manufacture in their old facilities?

No idea. You should send Lutz an email and ask. Report back when you find out. ;)

Website states “2010 Gorilla Glue, Inc.” and the website itself and navigation within the site is circa 2004. If they were an ongoing current manufacturer, I would think they’d have a more up to date website with more detail on current offerings. Seems like Lutz is just another name used to rebrand tools from Asian companionship like Great Star and Chervon.

Lutz thus has become just another Craftsman, Kobalt and Husky that tries to profit off a name, not the product.

Sorry, just trying to push this up on the forum and ask if anyone can identify any ratcheting screwdriver still made in the US aside from Snap On (and rebranded variants like Williams) and Proto J9320 (not sure if they still make this)?

Ive become obsessed with trying to figure out why the Chinese and Taiwanese tool companies have monopolized the production of almost all ratcheting screwdrivers. There are some made in Germany like the Wera and the MegaPro (Channellock variant) & Rolgear made in Canada and Vessel and some others out of Japan but almost everything else is made in China and Taiwan. Why have western countries stopped making them? Even screwdriver manufacturers like Ideal/PrattRead/SK don’t make any and other tool companies like Wright don’t even offer one.

This just seems like a basic tool that many more manufacturers should make here.
