The Duralast ratchets that are sold in kits (with sockets, extension, ect) are just re-branded Greatneck.
Apparently more and more of the socket sets are cheapening as well.
And finally, the comfort grip ratchets are now only available as special order.
You might say, they just aren't doing much to inspire confidence.

Inspire confidence? We are talking about Autozone aren't we? I don't think confidence and Autozone go together but, that's just me.

I know it hurts to be scorned by your favorite tool brand Duralast Mr. Holeshot but, you just need to move on and find another brand more to your liking. Perhaps you can embrace the new SK once their tools are available.:bounce:

Duralast is far from my favorite brand but the current (or maybe previous) offering were/are quite nice and well built. But lately with Gearwrench and a few others warranty and consistancy are very important. I'm just growing weary of the here today gone tommorow, bait and switch and you bought it, you broke it screw you mentality I just find myself wanting to just unload and stick to what I made a living with all the years before. I bought the best all those years and warranty was second nature. Normally if something changes it was for the better 99% of the time, I'm spoiled to no nonsence warranty service. Dealing with all the warranty hassles and negitive changes in the tools is something I'm not use to. As far as brands go Snap-On #1 and SK#2 so I imagine I will embrace SK when it comes back out. I have a good bit of SK and have always really liked the brand. We will see what happens with them but SK is one of the few tools I will buy and not worry about the warranty even if they never sold another tool. 45 years of using them instills a lot of confidence in the brand.

Frankly I was ignorant to the world of discount tools. Live and learn I guess

I think it's more about getting rid of the China man's trinkets in his tool boxes than anything else. Make sure you treat yourself and your family at a nice American restaurant with the cash you make okay?

I'm sure I'm gonna get flamed...but its my OPINION that COO has absolutely nothing to do with quality. Think about it - from cars to kitchen knives (my GFs Japanese made Toyota, my set of German made Wustof kitchen knives), lots of great products come from overseas. People in other countries can forge metal, run machine equipment and assemble products just as good as folks here. And, I reckon that folks in other countries need jobs too. . . .

I won't flame you, but you are leaving out an important aspect in all this. As a 50+ year veteran consumer of US products, I have formed a very GOOD idea of what US companies are good ones and which ones might be marginal or lower quality. Example, I would prefer Ford over a RAM truck for my own personal reasons that I will not get into here.

When it comes to Chinese companies, I know squat. I take my chances buying Chinese as though I haven't been a consumer at all for the last 50 years. And THAT irritates the hell outta me.

That is the issue it's self. The cheaper, great neck "looking" ratchets have the same part number as the good, single ratchets.

I'm not ready to give up on Duralast quite yet. I hope they are just doing a craftsman/Evolv type of thing.

In fact, I'm taking advantage of the switch over. The stores still sell the good sockets in singles and the cheep-o sets. So I'm going to buy the cheap-o sets and warranty them one at a time for the good singles. :lol_hitti

mrholeshot: Want to sell your duralast? (non ebay remark )

Hmm...well good thing then that I have a solid amount of the good Duralast ratchets. Thanks for the heads up on the fact that the part numbers are being copied over to the rebranded versions.

It looks like your selling more than just GW on the classified, did HF not honor your warranty too?
Not that I just trying to clear out some stuff I have buckets of stuff and no where to put them. I bought the HF stuff just out of curiosity and to test. I want to get my stuff down to a manageable level. I'm selling off the excess and keeping my favorites. I've been putting together socket sets all day.

I agree with you but some times it's just exhausting spending days trying to buy USA tool when you need the tool for a quick weekend job. Some times theres no USA item to be had or price just doesn't justify it.

Well if you're getting rid of your GW stuff, let me know if you've got any cushion grip ratchets headed for the choppin' block :D

Please use the "ignore" feature available to you in your User CP. It is clear that you are never going to get along with each other, and the rest of us don't want to have to drink the draughts of bitterness.

Thanks.
