I found an Ace Hanson "Super Set" on CL last night. It looks almost new, and nothing is missing or broken. Paid $40. I don't know much about Hanson taps/dies except they are USA made and seem good quality.

I have had one like that for years, I like your case, mine is red. It almost looks like a John Deere case. I am not sure on the price, but it seems like you didn't get hurt.

I have the same set as well. Take care of it, it will last a long time. Use liberal amounts of tapping fluid to get longer life from the steel!!!

I have had mine (case was orange -- faded now) for 30 years. Hansen is of the highest quality IMO. It will last forever if you take care of it and stay away from chasing or creating too many stainless steel threads. I wanna say I paid 34.99 for it at Santa Fe tool around 1982 (my memory is fading so I could be way off but that is what comes to my mind).
I have a friend who bought a 12 buck set from HF and it lasted, well the 1/4-20 die about 3 minutes while I watched him tread a mild steel rod of proper diameter.

Same set as Irwin/Hanson, Snap-On, Matco, Mac. The green case is older. They also come in red and blue cases (depending on the age). Good buy!

Good score! I have had my set (green case and all) since 1967. Only a few of the taps have been replaced, and none of the dies. They are great tools.

These old sets are carbon steel, and should be used only by hand and with good cutting oil. They will last a long time if cared for.

My plastic case still works, but has suffered a couple of hits. My dad placed a pair of vice grips on top of the lid after he had heated something with a propane torch, so it has that imprint melted in. A friend borrowed the set and placed a lacquer-thinner soaked rag on the lid, melting and warping it in a different spot. But the lid still closes and latches!
