Use for old garage door tracks?

I have a set of garage door tracks - minus the bends I cut off so I could just store the straights. I couldn’t get myself to toss the tracks, but are there any good/cool/useful ways to reuse these things or am I just being a packrat?

Not being a packrat.
Long as you have the room, a good chunk of steel is worth keeping.
You will find a use for them.

You'll figure out the perfect place to use them about a week after you take them to the scrapyard.

I've been wondering the same thing for about 10 years now! Also have a collection of struts from old wood door as well as chain-link fencing poles.

Use one for a sliding door track over a closet or something.

Use them for trendy barn door install. Also makes great heavy duty drawer guides.

My project was not a drawer, just a shelf. Garage door tracks might have worked better than the z-bend angle iron that I used, but basically, I had a pull-out shelf under the bench. Rollers on the back of the shelf that ran on the tracks, two legs on the front corners. Just lift a bit on the front, roll it out, you have a bit more bench space.

Just need to be sure to put some stops in the tracks so you don't pull the shelf/drawer past the end of the tracks.

Make your own sliding tool/parts bypass walls similar to what you'd find in the big box stores. Hang the sliders from a track that's mounted vertical, use sliding door guides on the bottom.

I agree, however I think it is time for me to cash in some of my assets as my shelf is overflowing. I think these tracks are galvanized, so proper precautions for the zinc oxide that will be formed when welding.
