After I saw some of the clocks made out of old wheels in the other thread, I was curious what else old wheels are good for. Has anybody made a hose reel out of one? I've seen wheel tables before, but that's about all that I can think of right now.

Bib Overalls said:I've made a number of hose and extension cord hangers out of old car wheels. I use the older ones that are riveted together. I drill out the rivets and drive the center out. Then I cut the rim in half and weld on mounting tabs. A little rattle can red to match my other fabricated shop gizmos and I am good to go.

Bib Overalls said:Removing the center gives the gizmo a finished look. And cutting the rim in two gives you two gizmos from one wheel. Pictures show two different techniques I have used for attaching the gizmos to my shop's structure.![]()
aspera said:Yeah, I was thinking about modern aluminum wheels. Has anybody mounted them using bearings so that they spin to roll up hose? The aluminum wheels look nicer, and wouldn't rust if the reel was outside.
