Use water when diamond grinding?

Currently diamond grinding. The Edco grinder I am using has a water line that you can hook the hose to and use water to keep dust down. Although I'm not having a dust problem, does water help the grinding process? I read on another post that is creates a mess.

What say you? Thoughts please

Sprinkle down sand if you are pulling up a previous coating. If you are just trying to even out a concrete floor do not use anything but get the industrial rental vacuum becasue you will clog up your home style vacuum quickly.

Have fun

You probably found out already that when you grind with a little water and it creates a wet slurry the grinding is faster. Clean up is more intense.

The water is designed to keep the diamond bit cool. When they get to hot they will glaze over and not perform well. They will glaze over and need to be dressed.

I would not use water I also considered this when I did mine last weekend it will make a huge mess & if you have it attached to a vacuum there shouldn't be much dust at all!

Also my diamond bids did not get hot. I ran that thing for hours and once one of the wood wedges fell out so I had to pick the bit up and it was only warm.

If the diamonds glaze then you are using the wrong diamonds. Doesn't really matter wet or dry with the correct segments. A good vac is a must on dry grinding. Wear a good mask anyway you go. If you do wet, you don't need to flood the floor. A little water goes a long way.

Thanks for the great replies everyone. I got about 50% of the floor done today. The hardest part was grinding the existing sealer. Once that was ground, I started to see the dust issue. I have the weekend (except to go watch the Vols play) to finish this up. Epoxy next Friday!
