Replace all the cables first, then the motor/pump and air lock valves. You are buying just the iron frame (my opinion) that needs everything replaced. Parts are pricey.....

ONLY $1,000 for a lift that has been sitting outside and unused for what appears to be a long time? Probably another thou or more to replace cables, pulleys, pulley shafts, pump and pump cylinder, not considering labor. Two thou should get you a good working used four post ready to use safely without all that hassle.

I am on the same boat trying to find a deal on a two post and four post.

You want to find one used by a private owner, who is moving. I have seen quite a few around the $1500 mark lightly used.

I would stay away from one sitting outside that hasn't been used. Like others have said you will probably end up rebuilding the whole thing. In the end you probably won't save much over finding one for $2000-$3000 that's in nice shape.

I agree with the above posts. That lift isn't likely worth any more than scrap metal prices (minus the cost to haul it away). Skip it and look for another deal. Now, I could be wrong, but I don't think it'd worth the risk to find out.

So instead of people guessing what the cables, cylinders, etc look like from that one picture, what do they really look like? Is there really a problem with them? A little fact can go a long way.

I'd take a look at it. I bet you'll find the cables in good shape and the pullies only needing a service. I would be concerned about the locks and actuators and make certain the ram isn't rusted to hell since its been resting at full extension, but everything about these units is really simple. So unless its just flat out rotted to death, its worth some investigation for the amount.

Pass and find one that is being sold by a homeowner and not stored outside. I just bought a really nice rotary 2 post that was only used a few times to lift up a lambo in a guys home garage. Looks like new. I have bought enough used things that I have learned to only buy stuff that is in excellent condition-it will cost me the same in the long run and I am much happier.

It's just like buying an old car to restore that's been sitting outside for 30 years. It's complete, but everything needs replacing, which adds up pretty quickly.

Hydraulic power unit is $260-300, hoses are ~$50-100, cables with swaged ends are maybe $250-300, blasting the steel is ~$250-300.


You’re into it easily another thousand or even more if the air lock actuators are weak.

Offer him $500 or pass and get one in better shape. The last pair of used four post lifts I saw went for $1400 each all in and they looked like new.
