Anyone buy a used A/C recovery/recycle machine? I am looking at one that has a unknown background and wanted to know if there are any ways to test it out? They don't look terribly complicated but wondering how to test the various components things like the compressor, vac, solenoids, scales to see what I am dealing with.

Any feedback would be helpful.

what did you find?
maybe hook it up to your car/truck to test it? iknow the tank on the one at work is 16 lbs, the guy selling it should be able to run ya thru it if you're not friendly with it.

be careful with the used ****. A lot of machines have been damaged by the stop-leak **** that diyers pump into their cars. Machines without identifiers and filters have extensive damage, in most cases not worth repairing older machines. Have seller demo the unit on a system before you get yourself screwed.

Guy has 2 old Matco (from early 2000's) made by RTI. He bought both at an auction so like I said, the background is unknown. The compressor and vac fire up, not sure if they hold pressure.

One of them he's tried and says that it works and he has it for $650 and the other he said one of the gauges doesn't work. He told me he would sell the broken one for $350. Actually I am thinking about the one with the broken gauge. If i could buy it for a $100 or $150 and add a few parts, I might have a good deal.

I hestitate hooking up to my truck (daily driver) but my jeep, I'd think about it. Of course if I got a good deal i'd buy new filters and change the oil on the vac pump and compressor.

most I see are contaminated easy fix with some **** gas. although you ned an Identifier to test for contamination. stop leak is harder to fix but that generally just makes the machine slow.
