First time poster, long time reader.
I inherited an air compressor (Craftsman 30 Gal 5 HP) which looks to be in good condition, except for a small dent which looks to have primer panted over it. It's been sitting in a garage, unused for at least 6 years, when the owner passed away. His wife just passed away a few months ago.
I brought it home a couple months ago, but couldn't run it because it needs 240 volts, and I didn't have an outlet in my garage. I did opened the drain **** to check for water, but nothing came out at the time.
Fast forward to a few days ago, and after installing a 240 volt outlet. Also after checking the oil, filter etc, I decided to let 'er run for a bit. I got it up to about 80 PSI before shuting it down and releasing the pressure down to 20 PSI. Then I opened the drain ****, and water started to drain out, more than I expected. About a pint of rusty water, before blowing air.
Now I'm a little concerned about the tank. Basically it had a pint of water sitting in it for at least 6-7 years. I assume the owner maintained it when he was alive, over 6 years ago. Although I'm not sure why water was left in it. Any idea on how much that would have rusted the tank? And/or how I can determine if the tank has been compromised, short of getting it tested?
Any advice is much appreciated.
