Looks like it's got a Baldor motor on it. They ain't cheap. I wouldn't pay $800 for it tho. I notice he doesn't say anything about the make or how big the tank is. The older the tank the more likely to have a rust problem. Can you go look at it?

Its worth more than that if you really need one, and way less if the seller really needs it out of the way.

aside form that, the seller does not say if it works which could really lower the value if it doesn't.

It's a bit of a ways away so I don't want to drive out there unless I pick it up. I am seriously thinking about skipping this one.

I noticed on the bottom right corner of that red ID plate it says 1976. I'm thinking that's not a good thing.

The only thing that got my curiosity was 'baldor'

It's an Ingersoll Rand Type 30. Decent compressor when new.

Motor is a Baldor. Decent motor when new.

The tank is 41 years old. May be good, may be ****.

Looks to have the starter with it, so bonus points there.

If it was maintained properly and the tank is sound, it is a good quality compressor. It could also be a pile of scrap. $800 would be pretty cheap if it's usable though.

How, but how did you figure that one out? Not that I doubt you but I am just generally curious and impressed.

Seeing as I have a small compressor that can run my nailers I am thinking it might just be easier to get a big corded or cordless impact gun and save all the trouble. I am not sure what else I would use a big compressor for other than impact wrenches and painting and I can't paint.

That narrow it down a little doesnt it. For 800 could easily buy something new that would do the work. Wouldnt need to buy a project.

$800 really isn't quite there for new, 5HP, and multistage, certainly not US made.
It is right on the edge, and I'd offer less, but not be scared of the machine. Mine's from the '40s, and hasn't had an issue in the 10 years its been with me.

The shape of the crankcase and cylinder head is a giveaway.

There is also the "Ra" in Rand just visible under the motor.

That tank was probably gold or green when new.

I bought a slightly newer Champion foe $260 a couple of years ago, based on the age I wouldn’t pay any more than that for the IR.

The Champion had a recently rebuilt pump, at that.

A fairly good compressor could be found, brand new, for that price that would meet your needs as I understand that, and it would come with a warranty.

Pass... just pass... It's not even remotely worth what he is asking... Plus the age of the tank and how cruddy it looks make me think it hasn't been very well maintained...
