What would you pay for this craftsman tool box? 100? 200?

Are they just roller slides or are they ball bearing? I'd say $100 would be a pretty good deal, maybe up to $150. I don't think I'd go up to $200 unless they were ball bearing and in good condition.

Agree with Super Sport's analysis. $100 is a good deal, $200 a bit of a stretch unless really good condition.

Alright thanks for the info, asking price is $200 so I'm going the guy will bargain. $150 was my limit , going off the picture.

New HF 16-drawer 26" would be a better value IMO at $299, much more storage space, much better quality. You could paint the drawers black like Jack did if you need it to match. :)

I was looking at the HF offerings, but can't justify that much money right now. The 11 drawer machinist style box for $199 is tempting though.

I'd take the older craftsman, even a bit rough, over that 11 drawer unit at HF. I tried to convince myself to buy it a few times over the years at $149 or maybe even $129, since that was all I could afford. Each time I went in and messed with the display model I remembered why I didn't buy it the last time.

If you keep watching long enough, I think you'll be able to get something similar to that craftsman set for around $100. Could take a while though. Watch your local CL closely and you'll find a great deal.

If you can't swing the 26" HF, don't pay above $150 for that Craftsman and definitely don't pay $199 for the HF 11 drawer.

The 26" HF boxes can't touch the quality of that older Craftsman box (Assuming nothing is seriously wrong with it). The wider "Pro" HF boxes can however.

In agreement with the others 100 to maybe 150 dollars, and I would definitely take the old craftsman over the hf boxes.

I agree: about $100 to $150 tops. That old of a box should have friction slides, not ball bearing (I have that top, except with 3 shallow drawers in the top middle instead of 1 deep drawer).

If you go look at it check out the drawer slide holders mounted to the box, if they are not full length pass on the box.

Well picked it up for $150, with a new set of craftsman drawer liners and one of those socket rail sets mounted on sheet metal with a handle. Literally in mint condition.

How can I date these boxes? Looks likea Waterloo upper, much better construction than the current offerings.

Better pics when you can, and if it is as oxidized as the CL pics look, do the automotive rubbing/polishing compound on it. That will probably clean it right up.

Good choice. Clean it up and use it for a few years until you upgrade. Then keep it if you have the space or or sell it and get your money back.

You can find the date of the lower, easily on the front right lower part of the cabinet. It should be stamped. As well, it's sometimes on a sticker inside the cabinet.

Based on the logo, I'd say late 80s and up, that's just a guess, it could be newer. I'm better with the older logos.
