Used General water pump... How to test it?

I recently was at an auction and bought a used General TS2021 water pump for [what I'm hoping to be] a good price.

I am hoping to flip it, as I realized (after buying it) it would be too expensive for me to create a working system with it and my compressor engine.

So now, how do I test it so that I can sell a used "working" pump?

Could I hook it up to my faucet, and then drive it temporarily with the compressor engine (9hp Robin EX27). It should, I imagine, shoot out water faster than faucet pressure. I wouldn't have a hose, wand, or unloader valve.

Any thoughts?

you would need to make sure you have RPMs in the range the pump can handle and a pretty sturdy hookup to the engine, or a clutch or some such to disable the connection. Same with the pump, it needs to be tied down and a way to control it.

Same with the water exiting, you should have some way of deflecting that output, as it may harm your hand, face, leg, skin, siding, etc. as I believe it is a 3500PSI pump...

Best of luck.at least be safe.

The compressor that it is currently attached to is belt driven, but I don't know if the sheave on the compressor has the same bore diameter to fit the water pump. I do know that it has an adequate enough gear-reduction to drive the pump in the correct rpms.

I just wanted to get as much information as possible first. Aside from doing this, are there any tests that I could do? Should the pump shaft be able to spin freely, disconnected to everything external? I tried spinning it by hand but it wouldn't turn... Not sure if it's an internal problem, or just not enough torque.
