Used HF 44" box value?

I have the older 44" US General wrinkle finish roller cabinet and top box in perfect shape. No dents, scratches or stickers. I just got a new SO box and want to sell the old stuff here locally. Obviously to bulky to ship.

What should it be worth? I think these can be bought new for $600 plus tax. I listed it on Craigslist for $325 three days ago and have not had a single inquiry. 90% of the stuff I normally list on there sells the first day. I am thinking my price must be high?

I really just need the darn thing out of my way and do not so much care how much I get as i have got my money out of it over the past 7 years but I don't want to give it away?

Where are you located? If you are within 2 hours of SW Michigan I'd be interested in the combo.

Location is key.

Around me it is worth about $200, maybe $300 but you are going to have to wait a while at that price.

Texas - and while I would certainly sell it to anyone my post is not an attempt to sell it here. I just want to know if my price is too high or if no one here locally wants a tool box?

I sold my old HF impact sockets the other day because I bought some Sunex ones and they were gone in less than thirty minutes.

I think 325 is a fair price. If you are impatient lower to 250.

If you were closer I'd take it.

I would too since it's nice and clean. I am about to buy one. Perhaps you need better pictures?

Pretty sure you wouldn't have any trouble unloading it the first day here either at that price. Lower the price to $295 though and see if that helps. Listed at $325 would normally garner offers of $300 anyway.

No lowballs, no scam emails, no spam? Make sure the ad is linking to the correct email address, and check your spam folder.

Oh yeah I get plenty of those " I will take it let me send you a check and my shipper will contact you" messages.

But no legit low balls. I priced at $325 thinking I would take $300. Everyone wants you to come off the price. Heck If I listed it for $10 someone would probably ask if I would take $5.

Nowadays from my Craigslist ads, I get more spam in the inbox and legitimate replies frequently go to spam.

I paid $350 for a 56" bottom only. It was the asking price and I didn't try to dicker. I was actually second in line but the guy who was first tried to lowball the seller and seller said its mine if I want it for $350. I've seen too many deals missed because someone thinks now they can squeeze out another few dollars. Seeing a HF box on CL locally for me is not too common so you have to be willing to either drive out of the area, or jump on something you think is priced fair.

Sure it had a ding or two, a scratch here and there but I saved over $300 vs new for something that does not have a motor or get "mileage" on it.

I would jump at yours for $325 if I was near you.

$325 is a great price for BOTH pieces, so I wouldn't go lower personally. Where else can you find that much storage for even 2X that price?

I paid 40 bucks for My Kennedy top and bottom.
I see no reason that a used old style hf should be more than a Kennedy.
Kennedy top and bottom are 200 bucks, and stagnant around here.
I'm not sure a hundred bucks would get a call.

What was paid for it new has zero relevance.
Ask any Kennedy buyer.

Ducksface: where's around here at? Definitely not that cheap around Southern Indiana. Thx

They don't go for much used. A guy had one listed a like new bottom on craiglist here for a good month for $250. Not sure if he finally sold it or removed the ad.

You need to chain it in the back of a pickup and park it half a block from the local Harbor Freight with a for sale sign and a phone number. Actually, I think you could probably sit there an hour and somebody would buy it at that price.

Some of these responses have me shaking my head. OP says he has a roller AND top box listed at $325 and guys are telling him it's too much.

Basing the value off some unbelievable deal you got for another box is silly and unrealistic.

Keep it at that price, post a few pics showing how clean it is and you'll sell it before you know it.

Try other posting services. If you have a smartphone you can use the apps Letgo and OfferUp.

They're very user friendly and the interface is extremely easy to figure out. Both are free.

I wonder if the general public sees "harbor freight" and thinks it's junk. They don't know it's pretty good

For the record I agree with you. $325 is any excellent price & value for a 44" top and bottom. I only suggested lowering to $295 to generate some new interest as many would try offering $300 for it anyway.

To suggest it is only worth $100 is ridiculous.

But not completely illegitimate, if better boxes are showing up as better values it will make things harder to sell. a good number of people would probably find an extra 75.00 to get the same sizes in a lot of other, better brand names even if the better brand isn't as good a shape. Although 300 might be a good deal for like new there are those who will see it as just a used HF item and not see that as a real value.

I think that is a fair price, I would gladly pay that for a top and bottom. I think I have only seen one used HF 44" on Craigslist near me. I actually emailed about it, but never got a response so I just bought a new one. I can't recall the price though.

Better is pretty subjective if someone would compare this to an old Kennedy box (friction slides/tiny drawers and draw pulls etc..).

It takes me about at least a week to sell anything on CL around here. It just takes that long to find an honest buyer that isn't trying to lowball out the gate and bothers to call/e-mail back after the first contact.

Only exception was when I sold my Lincoln AC-225. I probably had 20 replies in 12 hours and sold it in under 24. I guess since I wasn't trying to get 80% of a new one for a 30 year old welder (pretty much the norm around here) people just jumped at it.

I gave up on CL, I sell all my stuff on the letgo app. It makes sure most of the people who respond are local to you. Only bad thing is around here (south florida) 75% of replies are in Spanish

What is the title and wording on the post? Personally I'd remove any reference to harbor freight from it. I imagine there's a lot of people that heard bad things about HF and had the money to buy from elsewhere and just assume anything HF is china trash.

for the title, I'd just emphasize the size and condition of the toolbox rather than the manufacturer. The pictures clearly state the brand, so you're not trying to pull one over on anybody by trying to pass it off as a more expensive toolbox.

You could even raise the price by $25 and toss $20 worth of filler tools in it so you can advertise is as Toolbox with Tools to draw more attention to the listing yet.

From my prospective, the finish kills it. When I first saw the wrinkle finish boxes I told myself no way. Its a dust trap that will hold any overspray from even using a spray can within 50' of it. Honestly, when I first saw one at HF, my reaction was "That's a damn shame..."
As soon as the glossy finish came out, I had to have it.

Same goes for the Milwaukee boxes.
