i picked up an already assembled Harbor Freight blast cabinet that used to be a floor model at one of the local stores, so it was never actually used. i got it for free as it didn't have any of the glass, the gloves or the lights. the rest was otherwise there. i picked up a set of gloves from HF for pretty cheap, but can't seem to source the glass panes. i've seen a few video's of upgrades that people have done for the glass, but it includes using what came with the cabinet from the store, which is obviously not an option for me

can someone please give me a list/breakdown of what to buy to get the proper thickness and functionality of the glass?

also, when the store built it, they used the standard foam between the pieces, which from reading EVERYWHERE, i know that is not nearly enough and people often use some sort of silicone or something on all of the inside joints to keep media from coming out. what is the best to use that will not degrade terribly over time from media bouncing off of it?

No great answer but make a template and visit the local glass shop. They may know the correct solution

I know we made a template for a dresser in our bedroom that we had refinished and they cut it out nicely and it wasn't expensive. Has lasted for years and protects the top nicely

I built my cabinet out of plywood and used double strength glass. That's about 3.2mm or 1/8" thick. Stronger yet 3/16" is also available; 1/4" seems like it would be overkill

You may have to move the glass retaining brackets, but you can get hardened/tempered glass at places that sell displays to stores. You can buy a piece of glass shelving.

I built my own blast cabinet over 20 years ago. I used a piece of lexan that I already had.
I used an old window screen that I cut down as a shield to keep the blow back off the glass. I placed it about 1” from the glass held with bolts and sleeves. That cabinet still has that original piece of lexan in it
