Yeah that is a thorough ad lol but if your spending that much, why not just pay extra 10% or so, buy new and not have to worry about any 'lifetime warranty is only to the original purchaser' issues? I agree, $5K sounds more reasonable

That is something I've never understood when people price stuff. Maybe I'm in the minority of people who think about that.

Just yesterday I came across a pair of 'like new' Apple AirPods Pro. Asking price was $9 cheaper than retail. The ad even pointed that out, but said you'd save on taxes as well. So you save $25 but have a used product and may end up with issues if you need to file a warranty claim since you didn't purchase them from the store.

Just 2 weeks ago at H.F., I was looking at the Icon in-store display. (first time I'd ever seen them). Store employee came over and asked if she could help. I said I was curious how all this would price out, if purchased as the one on display. It had EVERY box, cabinet and option, but the price tags were on each of the many individual pieces.

She said she add it up, and apply the appropriate discounts. The grand total for ALL of it came to exactly $7000. So IMO, that ad is no deal.

If it’s mint, unique and a few months old maybe 60-70% depending on the item, demand and availability.

The whole thing is sort of unfortunate for the buyer. According to his post he bought it at the old prices which were much higher so he paid I’m assuming well over 10 grand for it. He is offering what he thinks is a deal based on the current prices but like everybody has pointed out it’s not really a deal at all. The initial prices were ridiculously high and he must’ve been one of the few who actually bought at those prices. He is a bit delusional. The odds of finding someone willing to pay near retail pricing for that exact configuration is highly unlikely. then there is the risk of breaking down all that stuff and transporting it safely without any of the original packaging.

You either deal with a lot of desperate idiots, or you dont buy much used stuff.

If im selling a higher value, mint condition item, you arent getting it for 60% of what i paid. MAYBE 80% if im tired of looking at it. Ive never had an issue selling at that btw.

Depends on what you’re looking at. 50% of new is a good starting place. Then you have to adjust for quality and desirability - as in SAE or metric, new condition or hard use, snap-on or kobalt. Price goes up if it’s on your “have to have it” list but not so much if it’s on the “it would be nice” list.

The problem is if you use it for ten minutes or ten years, the resale is not much different.

I think you'd be surprised that clean, mint stuff does get good money. I sold my Milwaukee boxes purchased from HD for more than I paid. I got eh 56" cab and the 44" cab with top unit during a Black Friday deal, and sold them for maybe 10% off the website price- and had 3 different buyers for each. Why? Desirable unit, IN STOCK in my garage vs 3-6 week wait on the HD website. I suspect mint used ICON stuff is changing hands at around a 25% discount off current store prices less the expected 10% credit card deal. a 73" unit was up here recently for $2500. When I called the guy said it had sold in hours at ask. With the card you can get that new for $2800.
