Used KRL763 price?

Local guy is selling a used KRL763 toolbox with a single door side cabinet. He's had it up for sale for quite some time at $1200. (Started at $2000) I could use a toolbox for my garage, wouldn't mind this one, but don't want to spend $1200 for a garage box. Is this box priced right for what it is? Or should I throw him an offer of like $800 and see what happens? I realize it's a snap on and all, but it's relatively old, and it's sat at $1200 for months.

It looks like a double bank the guy added a side cabinet to. It's not 3 banks of drawers, it's 2 banks of drawers and the last bank is 1 single door.

There was a drawer option and a locker option. All the same if its in nice shape 1200 is honestly a good price for a box that size. People pay 1k for the comparable HF box by comparison so $200 more for a USA made KRL is a no-brainer, again provided its not all banged up. The mini-locker is more handy than you might think with so many tools coming in blow mold cases.

The only issue I have is the depth of the box. I'm a field service mechanic for Caterpillar now, so I don't have a box at work, but some day I may go back into the shop. When that day comes, I'll likely take my box from home and bring it in to use at work. This box is only 22" deep, and being in heavy equipment, I've got some pretty big tools. I'd just hate to have to go buy a box 28" or 30" deep to fit my needs when I already have this box bought and paid for. I'll wait and see what the guy says. Maybe he'll tell me to come get it for a grand.

Well put it this way. Its priced so well that if you wanted a deeper box later you could re-flip it for no loss. You'd pay a grand more, easily, for a 28-30" deep truck box unless you find another fantastic deal.

Also if you have a truck that visits said shop you should get a pretty nice credit toward an upgrade later as well so that's another option.

Well considering this guy has had it for sale for 2-3 months at $1200, I don't think it would be such a quick flip to get rid of for the same money it if I needed to. He messaged me back, said he'd be happy with a grand.

I'm still hemming and hawing about it. I just bought a jeep a few weeks ago, buying an enclosed trailer this week, and new 10x10 commercial garage doors are going in my shop this spring. It's getting expensive around here lol

I wouldn't touch it for $1200. Post a picture of what we are talking about and can go from there.

Edit: looked it up myself. Depending on the condition, you are on the borderline of fair. Lowball him and tell him "you've had it for sale for x amount of months" $400 would be my offer if I actually wanted it. I think you will be disappointed that it doesn't have a full length wrench drawer, that is what really separates the old boxes from the new.

For that box with a side box I think that is a pretty good deal. Look at it this way, a 761 and a classic 78 are space wise pretty much the same box. A 761 is heavier, better casters and better slides. Let's say the box is in great shape, $1200 is a you **** price for a classic 78, so when you add a side box, I think the 761 is a great price. Yes, its at least 10 years old, if not 20. Also if you see a reason to upgrade, the box will probably bring better trade in value towards a new box if you decide to go new.

Its a 73" box and you'd offer $400? I'd give you a few choice words in response then ignore you from that point on. Typical CL cheapskate. In a more lucrative area that box would of been long gone at $1200 in good condition.

I've always heard, if they don't get mad at your offer, then you offered too much.
It's 24" deep, no wrench drawer, older box, AND the guy hasn't sold it in 3 months? Yes I would low ball to start, increase to how ever much you'd be willing to pay.
Yes maybe it would be long gone but it doesn't look like that box is moving to a more lucrative area any time soon. And.... We are talking back and forth about a box that has no pictures.

There is a fine line between low balling and insulting. $400 is way below low balling for a box that size. You keep harping on the drawer but its still a ~50" top drawer which is pretty damn big.

As someone with a 1022, I find the "wrench drawer " overrated. I don't even keep my wrenches in that drawer, just a catch all for stuff that don't fit well elsewhere. Personally I like single top drawer design better because you get another row of 4" drawers. I think the new version of the 761, the 722 is one useless arrangement. Is there a link to the box or at least what cities CL is it on.

Wow, $400 offer for a triple bank snap on? I'd feel like a real **** offering that. I'll tell him $800 and I'll come get it. He's an hour and 15 minutes away, so the trip I have to make is worth something.

Oh and Dan, it's not on Craigslist, it's on an off-road site that I'm a member of.

800 would be a steal if not rusty, slides & locks work. I looked at one of those in fair shape a couple years ago that was listed for 1500 & sold in less than a week. I can't say what for but usually people don't come down much until they've had it listed for a while.

He turned down $800, said he'd keep it for any less than a grand. Which is weird because he's posted it like 5 times saying "need it gone, best offer". I'll let him sit on the offer for a while, maybe he'll change his mind.

Does it have a separate side cabinet or are you just seeing the built in side cabinet? If I am thinking of the right box, those are kinda goofy with their built in bulk storage door area. Those boxes were never real popular. $800-900 if in good shape. Maybe $1K but it would have to be nice, real nice.

It's a true triple bank, I can see the casters on the outside on each end, not like a double bank with the side cab added. He said the 3rd section has shelves that slide out when the large door is open.

Right, but does it actually have a side cabinet or not? In your initial post you state it has a single door side cabinet, which I think you are just counting the built in bulk storage area as a side cabinet. :dunno:

Side cabinet = removable separate box.

I think most would consider it just a double bank though.

Well it's a true triple bank. The top is one solid piece of sheet metal all the way across, and the right side is a large storage compartment with 1 single full height door. I think someone here or on another thread I looked at said these triple banks were available with all drawers in the 3rd bank or like this one and a large storage area with shelves that slide out.

Ok, so there is no side cabinet you were just talking about the built in compartment. I think the full triple bank version was the KRL1003 or maybe 773. :headscrat: I just don't think many would classify that box as a true triple bank due to the built in cabinet. They aren't nearly as popular and thus their value is kinda limited. Snap on tried that platform on a number of box sizes and none of them were very popular.

Yeah, if it had all drawers in the last bank I'd probably give him the $1000 for it without even thinking twice about it. He said he's up for trades on top of my $800 cash offer so I'll see if I got some junk in my garage I can move and make the deal happen.

That box is from plus or minus '95. They were offered for a year or two when the 761 was first introduced. Then discontinued. The 773 came out for a few years around 2000.
