Cheaper is always better but that is a lot of tool storage for $600. You probably won't be happy with the "fair" condition though. I always repeat this so it may be annoying to some, but if you are going to the trouble of wrestling one home, might as well get one you really like. And getting rid of it after you decide you want something different is a double pain.

I would have ZERO problems giving $600 bucks for that Box unless its just beat all to Hell. With the New Coupon Restrictions im unsure if you could get the same amount of storage for $600 bucks via HF (sq Inches) and even then, There longevity has yet to be tested in My Mind. Its all Personal Preference but i can tell you at that Price it wouldnt last around My Area.

Its definitely personal preference but I would say the HF combo is well tested indeed. I purchased the top box post new policy for $240. I plan on buying the bottom this coming week and am willing to bet I get it for $320 or less. Considering how beat the box in the photo is I would pass on it but each to their own. :)

:headscrat Everyone is entitled to there Opinion, Im not bashing the HF boxes. I cant tell how beat up it is by that Pic, But it looks like a Massive Box and i counted 26+/- drawers (+++ Storage). IMO when im considering Toolboxes, Im looking for a Lifetime investment and with My Tool buying skills along with Current inventory I need something that is gonna hold some Weight and I dont consider the HF boxes up to that challenge with only a few years on the Street, Maybe im Harder to Please.. Dunno. The OP didnt ask for a comparison between the HF box and the Mac, So this is all a Moot Discussion I suppose. Again to the OP.. I say go check it out and let your Gut Decide.

I actually own the 41" HF box, bought lightly used for $275 less than a month ago. I am however looking for something US made used, but of similar storage capacity (long term). I assume this is US made correct? Also anything to look out for? Paint is cheap to put on, but rust might be an issue? Where would I look for that? Is rust fixable or once started pretty much it has to run its course and the time bomb is ticking on longevity?

I'm looking for a tool box I can hold onto for many many years and US made really, and not much more than the HF top and bottom cost.

That looks like a good deal to me. You have to see it up close to know for sure, would not last long in my neck of the woods.

Its a Economizer 4000 Series (I looked at ad I didn't know this off hand) since you did not post that already it might help with finding a value. It looks more dirty than beat to me.

Id definitely look for anthing worse than Surface Rust, The Great thing about Heavy Made boxes is the ability to fix imperfections (dents etc). I would also check all the Slides for sticking, Bent parts, Probably wouldnt Hurt to get the Model Number and verify with Mac what parts are still available. Im not sure if this is the same box on Ebay or not.

I just picked up a smaller mac box and it's awesome. I'd recommend checking it out first. If you like the condition, go for it.
That being said, there's a lot of wisdom being thrown around here too. If it's not in good condition or you see yourself being unhappy with it, leave it be. There's no reason to get yourself saddled with a huge box you don't like.

For me bad paint and rust is not a issue , just adds character. NC can not be much different than FL, everything around here seems to rust if not kept in conditioned garage, structurally I think that it would last a lifetime.
