I have one similar to this that I use.

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000HEBYYU/?tag=atomicindus08-20

When it is full I pour it into an old 5 gallon jerry can. When they are both full I take them to auto zone and empty them into their recycle tank.
mine's the round style drain pan and my 5gallon is an old potable water can and not a gas can, but same idea

grab the next couple old plastic gas cans you find on the side of the road. Spend the $5 on a new cap if needed. Done

I use a 5 gallon plastic jug off amazon - search "5 gallon plastic hedpack". $19. The square shape stores better.

No more than standing over the mouth of a 5 gallon jug holding a 5 gallon drain pan.
Gave up on the messy drain pan for oil changes a long time ago. That's what the big funnel directly into the 6G tote is for, right from the oil pan drain plug and filter removal. Then a shot of brakeKleen to rinse the oil off the funnel into the jug as well. Gotta have at least a mid-lift though, I guess I forget that sometimes.
If you have 5 gallon jugs, use those. If you got it in quarts, use those. Don't buy separate jugs if the recycler requires drop off rather than dumping.
Luckily my recycle lets you dump your own. You can leave old jugs/containers only if you want or need to. Good thing it's self serve too, because my used oil usually contains plenty of brake fluid...And whatever else ends up in there too.

Yeah your system is a little bigger than what the average DIYer is going to have.

I have a couple plastic 5 gal buckets with lids. I just pour the used oil in them and take it to Advance Auto's collection tank when they get full. Any construction site should have empty drywall mud or paint buckets that can be cleaned out. Or one of my buckets actually came from a local deli which buys pickles in 5 gal buckets. Just make sure you have the lid on tight when hauling them. (And there is a reason I know this.....)
watch out for the dry wall buckets there is a reason why they have the lids on the when empty of dry wall mud ..... may have other brown mud in them.....

Wide mouth kitty litter jugs work well for me. They hold a couple gallons. Easy to pour into and quick to dump at the recycle center.

5-gallon buckets. I have 4 of them for used oil.
I also have an old 5-gallon gas can I use too. When I take that one to Advance Auto to dump it, it never fails that some employee freaks out thinking I'm about to dump gasoline into the oil tank...lol

You're missing the point here. I don't want the hassle of trying to dump an oil pan full of used oil back into a little 1 quart bottle......over and over again. Its a pain in the *** and it makes a mess. A 5 gal bucket would be ideal. That would make it super easy to dump the pan of used oil into a bucket.

In an ideal world I would take the used oil in to be recycled that day but that never happens. It may sit in my garage for months at a time. So I'd like some that I can use over and over and something at seals well.
I'd assume if friends are coming to you that you have a lift? whether you do or not, how about installing a 1/2" or 3/4" valve with tubing on the bottom of your oil drain pan? that would make transfer to any container alot easier
