Used pallet racking prices?

There is a local auction to me and they have pallet racking being auctioned off. I am having a hard time figuring out the prices of these pieces. They have 12' and 15' tall x 10' wide x 42" deep complete sections. Starting bids are $50. It appears used ones are going for approx $500/section from what I can tell?

I am in the middle of purchasing a larger building for my business so pallet racking would work wonderful in the new facility. However, I have no idea what they are worth? Any help would be appreciated.

That seems high. I just paid $500 for three sections used private party, it would have been $700 for 3 sections from a used equipment dealer locally.

Pallet racking is of those things that are totally dependent on who is buying when. I've seen them go for as little at $10 a section at auction and as much as $300 from the same auctioneer in the same city. You just have to decide what it is worth to you.

I've found a lot of variation in prices, so asking what you should expect to pay is difficult for people around the country to answer. Locally, I can get 8' beams for under $10. Last time I checked on wire decks, they were about $20 for 42" square ones. Can't recall what the uprights were, but one dealer sells them by the foot (of height.) Maybe it was $8/ft. Rusty-ness vs. nice paint will also affect the pricing. The ones you find on CL or word of mouth sources will generally be cheaper, but there are people that price their junk like it's solid gold. The more patient you are, the more likely you can find deals.

Look for material handling companies in your area which sell used racking. Develop a racking plan and have them price what you need. This will give you the maximum price you should pay, and also an inventory of what you need so you can be sure that the auction stuff will meet your needs. Racking is brand specific system (not always interchangeable), so you want all the components (uprights, beams, wire rack, etc) to match.

Look at a place like www.uline.com for new pricing and that will help give you an ideal on what you'd be willing to pay for used. I got lucky and picked up a lot free from my job when we were 5S'ing and looking for more manufacturing floor space.

20 to 50 per upright and maybe 10 to 20 per horizontal.
Big factors are the location, quantity and the economy.

I've got about 200 linear feet of shelving in my shops. About 50% 12'H x 44"D x 8.5'W the rest 8'H x 44"D x 8.5'W. I bought all off CL, mostly between 2012-2015. Typical was $40-$50/upright, $10-$15/beam, $10/wire deck. I did manage to score 7 sections, 12'H x 44"D x 8.5'W, w/ 6 beams and wire decking, for $10/section. Guy had to clear out a warehouse quickly.

I've also seen numerous reports of it being sold for scrap price. But figure 2 uprights (180lbs?), 6 beams (150lbs?), 6 wire decks (60lbs) would be about 400lbs that's probably $20 worth of scrap metal.

Just bought three 16' tall sections with three shelves each (30" deep - wanted the shallow ones for my application, although they had various depths available) this past week at auction and had to remove myself - cost with auction fees and tax for all three sections (4 uprights and 18 beams) was $31. Uprights solid but could use some paint - cross beams are very nice.

There are used dealers around, not sure what pricing looks like in your area, but here i've bought uprights as cheap as $7 (rough looking) and beams as low as $5 each. Sections at our local auction place seem to run about $150 a section, usually about 6 beams per section. $500 a section sounds really high to me.

No input on price. BUT, be careful that you buy matching stuff. There are many manufacturers and they all build them pretty much the same. Just a little different.

I have an 12(?) bay pallet rack that I would like to sell. I have no idea how much it is worth. All the local ads are for components as some have priced out above. I don't know what components are what so I'm not sure how to compare it.

Any ideas?

Only half of it was put together in the photo, I have the rails and panels for the other half also.

I want to say we had these same types of racking at a computer wholesaler I used to work for, but its been a few years.

I figure it can hold 12 pallets when fully assembled. Any idea what I should ask? I just want to get rid of it, its taking up a lot of space.
