Is this a "you ****" deal or only fair price or not worth it?

(maybe this is more of a chest than a cart)

For a snap on box that size that is mega cheap, assuming it is legit. Looks legit to me but I'm not an expert on snap on boxes of that era.

I would say it's a pretty good deal but not quite in "you ****" territory.

It looks straight and will probably clean up nicely.

But is that black bottom drawer original? Was this a special version?

I'd say it's just fair, and that is if all the drawers work properly, no major problems. It has it's share of dings and rust along the bottom. It's a late 80s KR657 bottom box. 33" wide, 18" deep, ball bearing slides, no welded in dividers.

It was one of the special edition boxes, Rick Mears IIRC. The bottom drawer just has a decal plate over the front of it.

^^^ Good point, I have an email to the CL seller, but I'm sure he is getting plenty of responses.

Depends, smaller single bay boxes are no longer desired for daily use in professional shops. They are solid great boxes for home shops. I think $250 is fair deal assuming drawers and slides are good. IMO

That would bring $400-$500 all day long around here. If the drawers operate well and the bottom isn't rusted out I would jump on it.

I think many of you are a.) overestimating the size/appeal of older single banks and or b.) thinking it is in better condition than it is. Looks borderline rough to me, especially casters.

Yes that's a good deal. That box has good bones and that alone makes it worth the cost. Easily repairable and versatile

That is actually the higher end single bank tool box, NOT cart!

I had one long ago, campares with the KRL series but from the late 80's/ early 90's.

Unfortunately they are not really selling all too well since most of the people who own them just want to get rid of them. I sold mine for $700 after I went through and had all the slide replaced, updated to the newer lock set and waxed the **** out of the box to bring back the shine.

But I will say, buy that sucker at that price! Its a solid box!

I did purchase. I think is a fair deal, but not a "****" steal.

I using this as a learning project, I'll remove drawers, etc., and repaint. Most rust is surface and should easily clean up. My first SO, this sucker is heavy and well made.

Does it have the original lock set? (Blade style key?)

Order up the newer lock set and if you repaint you can just remove the lock assembly and install a fresh new one after the paint is dry.
