First off - a big thank you to Moose for putting this whole thing together!

But my question is this - Is anybody offended by receiving used tools for a gift? I picked up some really great tools at garage and estate sales this year but just felt cheap giving a used product. Anybody else feel this way?

Lastly, I'm starting to come up with cool gifts for next year already.

Nope that was in the original deal if you had something used or found something used that you thought the recipient could use. Its all good.

I am very happy with the used set of safety wire pliers that I received. Anyway as soon as it touches a bolt once the tool is used anyway.

The way I look at it is for the same money spent I would rather have a higher quality used tool then a lower quality new tool.

Not at concerned about used tools, just as long as not used up!

I prefer my vintage tools to most modern tools anyhow.

I got a nice set of used impact deep sockets, a used ratchet and shirt. I am happy with my stuff, they are pretty nice impact sockets and I said that I needed some. No offense taken by me.

I wouldn't be offended at all. I received a used gift last year and i love it. It has character, it does exactly what it's meant to and above all else it's the thought that counts. I buy plenty of used tools so being given something used has no negative effect on me.

A gift is a gift, it's the thought and sentiment that counts!

They are not used gifts, they are vintage.

I'm with sharkin. Good tools or shop items are preferable to some of the things that are new. It is the spirit of the gift and understanding that some here spend countless hours and dollars finding vintage stuff it should make great gifts.

I gave a couple unused tools and a few used tools to my SS. My assumption was that anyone on this forum would appreciate a quality pre-owned tool.

If anybody gets offended by a gift given in the spirit of giving, used or new. They need to get a serious attitude adjustment.

What Chad said.

Now, re-gifted gifts, that doesn't sit so well with me.

No way. I bought most of my tools used and getting vintage, high quality used or older model truck tools is a great way to build a solid collection of tools.

And I fully agree with Red Green... "The way I look at it is for the same money spent I would rather have a higher quality used tool then a lower quality new tool."

Well said.

I'd say tools are probably the best used item you could ever give someone. The definition of a tool is something that gets the job done. Used top tier tools are better than new junk tools.

It's like giving someone a used G35 or a brand new PT cruiser.

They're used cuz we can't buy new versions of 'em. So that makes them vintage and kool!

I'm total agreement with above posts. If the tool gets the job done, then there's nothing wrong with it. Whether you call it used or vintage, it was a gift given as gesture of friendship. And besides that 9 out of 10 times; we all buy used tools from eachother here on the site.

I see your point Bull, but if I received a gift and already had them or the tool, I wouldn't feel bad passing them on. At least somebody would get use of them.

Yessir, that is reasonable and true enough. The thing to consider is just how the member who gave you the gift will feel when he sees that you have immediately sent it on to someone else. It basically says "I do not like your gift and maybe do not recognize the good will that you put into it."

Just my opinion.

I actually wanted to go used. I could have gotten more value out of what I could afford to give. My SS recipient didn't have a lot of clues as to what would be a perfect gift and I didn't have a lot of time to just randomly look for a killer deal, so I went with a new item that I know myself or anyone else in the shop I work at would have been happy with. I think getting a gift from someone with similar interests and knowledge of that interest is going to be a great gift no matter what.
