Interested in this thread. nice to see the input as its got me thinking.

Just finished building our house last year. We were tempted to get a generac standby installed. Ended up not doing it to save some money. Still planning to do it down the line but not a high priority. I have a engine drive welder generator so we had a manual transfer switch installed. Only problem is my truck is tied to the house during use. I also dont have a ton of diesel on hand.

The issue with many of those "solutions" is needing to be home for it to work. They aren't "stand by" generators.

If I'm away, I need it to kick on so the place doesn't freeze up.
