Sorry is this should be in the classifieds section since im not really trying to sell anything to the users if this forum. I have lots of duplicates of tools and im looking to sell them. I have sold some things to "pawn shop" type places but they never give you a fair deal. So im looking for a store or person who buys used tools in NJ. I wont get into specifics but i have a wetsaw (not the dinky DIY type ones they sell at home depot) and a few other things im looking to off load. So if any one knows of such a place/person i would be really appreciate it, thank you

Well the problem is that if you're offloading to someone that is buying specifically to resell, then you're going to lose out on a lot. These people are not going to pay a fair price, because they still need to sell at a profit, and they're not going to want to make 5-10% profit. Personally I would go with the obvious choices of CL and websites like this that cater to like minded individuals. Although I completely understand that dread that such practice can bring.

I have never had a good experience with CL, lots of unbalanced people on there. I know the rule of retail is at least a 52% mark up but there coming at me with insanely low prices and other things they say " no thats garbage, no one would buy it" when i know a lot of guys prefer an older target cutter over the newer Rigid and plastic home owner models. Im not trying to make a killing here, just want a fair price for some good quality equipment. I suppose i can give craigslist another cautious try. Thanks for your opinion

That's why I mentioned the dread that goes along with such places, especially in Jersey. Only put a single item or items that are alike per add, post many clear pictures on the items, along with links to the manufacturer's page on the item if possible, or a link to somewhere that sells the item. Post as much info as possible. That sometimes help show the lowballers that you know what you have, and shows the serious buyers that you're serious about selling. You're always going to have nutjobs though. Good luck with the sales.
I just went through another round of CL sales, it was tiring. Made some money though, in the end it was worth it.
My favorite negotiating tactic, "what is least u will take", that must be a standard reply button or something. My response was "I believe my price is fair, check eBay, prices are $20 higher" or something like that. Normally that works.
If you want to sell for a decent price, and you honestly think your price is fair, don't get mad at people who are idiots or low ball. If they low ball it means they are interested, although sometimes people do it just for fun. Annoying.

I have not bought or sold on CL lately but last time I did I made the meeting place public and not at my house. Last thing I want is someone coming back to the house for the items that were not for sale but visible during their visit. At this point, I only buy what I plan to keep or move around among friends/family. I have tossed or donated items of value specifically to avoid the hassle of selling them.

1. OBO does not mean give me a low ball offer
2, Give me your name and phone number and mention the item so I know you are a real person and not a spam bot or Email collection service
3. If the add is Up its available I cheerfully ignore all messages that say "Is it still available?"
Then when you call them if they are an obvious flake, don't be afraid to walk away.
Also when someone asks "What's the least you will take?" Respond with "What are you offering?" or raise the price and they will get the idea... "Yeah I was asking $25 in the add, but I'll take $35..."
