I found a shop that sells used tools about an hour from me. Had a really great time there this week. I Think I spent 3 hours going through as much as I could. Bought a bunch of stuff to fill voids in my collection.
Here are some pics, not all by any means, of what this place is like.
This is part of the 3/4 selection
Most of these drawers are full. A lot of the boxes are also for sale.
Couple of new Chinese 3/4 sets for $60 each (I think that was the price of these)
These drawers are also mostly full. Lots of Snap On and also Craftsman.
Here is the stuff i bought.
Including this Chas. Parker 953 vise for $50
That's an Enderes 1" chisel. It's 15" long. I think I got that one for $12. Biggest chisel I own now.
The seal pullers are rare. No idea how well they work but if you ever have to pull seals out of an assembled engine you'll try anything.
A fuse holder for the older glass fuses, a Bethlehem hammer, small HB copper hammer, complete Wizard 1/4 socket set (was $12 I think), $5 roll of rosin core solder (try to find that in a store today, ugh), Craftsman wooden hammer, Mac snap ring pliers small, vise grip (seen these but don't know what they are for) Napa SAE hex bit socket set.
All in all i spent under a hundred for the tools. The vise was another $50.
I would say most of Phil's prices are under Ebay's prices. He buys mostly at auctions which I would do too but I work weekends so most auctions are not accessible to me. Plus there's no shipping. You do pay 6% sales tax in Maryland but that is usually less than what I have paid for shipping (isn't it?) And for quantity they give a discount. I got 10% off.
Phil was not there the day I visited but I'll be back. Phil's lovely wife Yvonne was there. She knows more about tools than she thinks.
Where is this? Finksburg, MD. West of Baltimore. But I won't go into anymore details. Phil would love to see more Garage Journal members stop by. To get the address write him a PM for the info. His GJ moniker is fatfillup. He'll check in here because he is around a bunch on the forum and you can click on his name to get a PM to him.
Tried to make this come out not too much like an advertisement. This is a great place and a good resource that has something for every tool junkie that can make it by. I loved my time there.
