Well I was just about to pull the trigger on a brand new extreme with a hutch and I caught a break. This guys box has been for sale a while so I shot him a price and we settled at 4750. The box is just over a year old and in great shape. It sat in his shop hardly used. It actually became a junk collector. I picked it up yesterday and got it unloaded today.

Best option would be build a good rep with a tool truck he will let you know when one comes up used

With the bigger boxes thou it's almost cheaper to buy new since most dealer will work up a price and work with you plus manufacturer incentives come into play

Great price. I paid just over 1000$ more for my KRL1023 with hutch last year.

Nice! Is that the 1033?

Yes, 1033.

I have a good rep with a dealer, I've known him since I was about 8 years old. The wife was just not going to allow me to spend that kind of coin on a box. I have 3-4k to work with and it wasn't happening with a new triple bank. This deal came up and I was able to throw some more into it and get what I wanted and I'm done with it now.

The 1023 is a double bank I think. I packed this one today and holy hell do I have tons of room left. This box maybe over kill but it won't fill up fast

Overkill is the way to go. You'll never have to buy another box again.

I own a KRL 1023; definitely a triple bay - only difference between it and your 1033 is the full length 2 top drawers.

Finding a triple bank KRL under $3k is a challenge, but it can be done. Probably will be red at that price, as it may be an older box, but nothing wrong with an older, well cared for KRL unless you really don't like red. (For years, you could have your toolbox any color you wanted as long as it was red.) Expand your CL search to about 5 states, and be ready for a long trip. I've paid as little as $2,500 for an older red KRL (29" deep box). A factor is if it has a stainless steel top. When I have sold KRL triple banks, with SS top they've sold for $3,900 to 4,500. About $500-700 less without the top.

Keep in mind, I'm in a VERY good location to sell a box, (well populated area), and some of the best deals I've gotten buying boxes have been in remote areas. Also, another thing is that most of the time I buy boxes full of tools. A package price ALWAYS brings the best price. My current toolbox I got almost for free, and I paid 7k with it loaded with tools, and sold the tools for about double that on eBay. Free box. When I buy complete loaded toolboxes, all the tools I sell off separately on eBay. Then thoroughly clean the box, fix any broken parts, and sell the box in the best condition possible. I won't ever buy a box in shabby condition, too hard to move.

Another decent option would be a Classic 96 instead of a KRL. 95% as solid as a KRL, and has Lock-N-Roll and roller slides. Damn nice boxes, (but 24" deep). I just sold a pristine, brand-new condition one for $2,600, but I still made some money on that, (I would have asked a bit more if it wasn't to a friend.)

Never be afraid to make a low offer, and if you're constantly searching, you will begin to recognize the ones that have been sitting on CL for a long time. Perhaps ready to face reality. Or their annoyance level is getting to just the right point, (if you have a KRL triple bank in a one car garage, the wife is getting pissed she still can't park her car inside, etc...) Sometimes it takes a bit of explaining to make a seller realize it's not really worth what they think. Show them "Sold Listings" for similar boxes on eBay. (Generally eBay prices are somewhat lower than you'd think as shipping a KRL box is beyond most seller's capabilities.) As mentioned above, patience is critical.

Skyline thanks for the info. As I noted above my search is over but I agree with your post. Also I was not willing to settle for a classic 96. The 30" depth was important to me. I was not settling for another skinny box so I waited and stuck a deal on this 1033. Again very good and true info your post.

At 30", what is the actual useable drawer length inside?

What he said ↑↑ . the deep drawers are huge. Well worth having if you have the space for it. The snap on 30" box is actually 29". Subtrace for a recessed drawer and lock mechanism and that's what your left with.

>Judge That's a really nice box you got there, and given near new condition, you got a great price. With a little care, it will last a lifetime, and perhaps beyond.

Keep in mind that the deepest KRLs are 29" deep. Only the Epiq series is 30".

You are correct on the depth. I looked at a Mr Big a guy had and maybe its just me but I felt as though the epiq didn't have the quality that the KRL has. The drawer locks seemed cheap as well.

I've looked at several ads online. Majority of them have been on there for quite some time. This one particular makes me chuckle. I never talked to the guy but he started at 7K I think and is going down a little ever month or so.
