Used Vidmar and Lista Pricing?

What is the pricing structure for used Lista and Vidmar storage cabinets? I am sure it varies, but is there anything to guide me as I search for a deal?

For example, a cabinet approximately 5' tall, 28" wide and 28" deep would be a "deal" at what price?

Can two guys lift something of that size, or are these unimaginably heavy?

Good luck finding used ones, I've been looking for months on our local CL, and have yet to see any of them for sale. Hopefully your area will be better.

We have one on craigslist for $500 in that size. Looks like it is in good shape. That is an Alaska price.
Motörhead extraordinaire has scratch and dent sales.

The ballpark used to be $75/drawer. But I've seen it all over the place.

I paid $380 for the 9-drawer Equipto that made my red and black bench. A 'you ****' for that would be $250, I think. But it wouldn't be unheard of for guys to pay double or triple what I paid.

Hmm...so getting one in the size range I mentioned for a couple hundred bucks is a stretch?

How heavy would would that is 5' x 28" x28" be, approximately? I don't really have a strong friend to help me load one if I can find one. Maybe one friend on a good day.

It's not hard to move by yourself -- just time consuming. You take all the drawers and slide assemblies out. Then the body itself is easy enough to lean over and carefully 'walk' it. Easier still if you get it on a dolly.

I've moved all of mine by myself. Furniture dollies are handy to have around for this sort of thing.

From what I have seen from my favorite industry surplus places they are incredibly expensive, even the scratch and dent versions. Definitely $75 and higher a drawer.

Here's a guy in my area selling some...

I have 30 Stanley Vidmar cabinets. Prices range from $400-$1000 depending on the condition, and number of drawers.
I have 5 drawer, 7 drawer, 8 drawer, 9 drawer, 10 drawer and 14 drawer.
They may be really nice cabinets but that still seems pricey to me considering the size and condition...

Bull,

The Lista and Vidmar cabinets are great but keep an eye out for Rousseau cabinets as well as they are as stout and they have some great configurations. Here are some pics of some of the cabinets that got at auction. A little paint and they were good to go... One of these days I will clean up the shelves and put some doors on them! :)

My 12 drawer Lista 28x28x nearly 5' was about $950 from motorhead extraordinaire (plus copious amounts of shipping costs). One scratch on one drawer otherwise it was like new. That price included the drawer dividers in all drawers.

Two hundred is a steal for a cabinet that size. It is unlikely that you will find a Lista or equivelant that cheap. However, it's not impossible. About 10 years ago I bought a pair of Lista Cabinets for $100 each. They are 22" x 26" x 27" cabinets, with 12 drawers each.

Jack's moving advise is spot on.

Well, I picked one up tonight. I'll start a thread and post pics once I get it out of my truck tomorrow.

Jack, they are out there, my advise to any one who wants them is to check out shop/stores that are closing, I just got my two for 100.00 each from a local plumbing shop that closed. These are equipto's, in very good shape, I used the bucket from my compact tractor to get these off the pickup..

Richard, that's an awesome deal you got.

What is the kickplate? Is it a part that covers the feet that the forklift grabs?

My Equipto no longer looks like it did in that picture. I cut it in half, added some stuff and painted it.

Now it's a work bench.

There was an auction here in Wi. lately that had 20-30 Vidmar and Lista cabinets. I watched it close until they started to sell for $500 or more. Seems that most were bought up by 2-3 people, probably to re-sell them in the retail market to guys like us.

I have seen the 5 foot high ones go for $700 plus at auctions around here. A couple of weeks ago I was lucky at an auction. One was in the corner of the office, covered with stuff and kind of hidden - I am sure most people never noticed it (I didn't until a neighbor asked me if I was going to bid on it). Two guys were on it, bidding - I jumped in when the first guy dropped out and got it for $225. 13 drawers, 28 X 28 and about 5 feet high. Needs cleaning and maybe a fresh paint job, but no dents and drawers work fine. Just have to keep your eyes open and be lucky.

HI Bull, seeing that you are in Massachusetts, I'd reach out to Motorhead Extraordinaire on here. He has some pretty great deals on what he calls "junkyard specials."
Can't wait to see some photos! :)

One thing: you will always have more dividers than you need, or less -- never exactly the right amount. And they aren't cheap.

We sell our Junkyard Specials which are brand new LISTA cabinets that are returns, cancelled orders, demo units, freight damage, etc. They are all brand new and ship directly from the Lista factory. We are a LISTA distributor and have exclusivity on Junkyard Specials.

They are discounted 40% to 60% from new. Sometimes, as in last month, we had a big lot of 5-Drawer toolboxes, originally $1500 for only $595. I maintain a "watch" list for those looking for something particular.

I get a lot of 20-40 pieces every month.

As always, Garage Journal members get favored customer pricing. Drop me a note if we can help.

I bought a Vidmar cabinet w/ a "butcher block" type top for $90, the price at Grainger (not the most economical supplier) for dividers was almost as much as was paid for the whole bench.

We are a LISTA Distributor and also have an exclusive agreement with LISTA to sell all of their returned items, canceled order inventory, freight damage, etc. We call them our Junkyard Specials and they all are brand new, not used. They sell for about 1/2 the list price.

We process a new lot about once a month and each lot is usually 20-40 pieces. Sometimes items sell for as low as 1/3 the list price. I just got a new lot yesterday (31 pieces) and will be posting it on our website and on eBay in about a week.

I maintain a "wanted" list if you are looking for anything special. As always Garage Journal people get our most favored customer pricing.

I found these Lista cabinets on CL for $220.00 about two years ago in Phoenix. I look at a minimum weekly and Motorheads specials are very much in line with what I see used Lista selling for making them a good deal for blems.

Scored a GWS Sovella cabinet locally (Made in Finland)
Few dents here & there, it was missing 2 bearings for some of the drawers, but found them at my local bearing supplier.
9 drawers and lift truck base for 525$ 28x28x5'
Sorry about the toys getting in the way of the cabinet, in the picture ;)
Garage is still under construction too...

Wow, very nice! What will you use them for?
Linda

I just got them set up again after moving. Normally the cabinet that is open has all the items used for the house, paint gallons, weed killer, romex, power saws etc. on the pull out shelves. Cleaners, bulbs, and my wifes gardening equipment on the main shelf and pegboard. The center cabinet has the weedeater and its attachments, rakes, hoes, shovels, sledge hammer etc. The cabinet to the right will have all the automotive items, transmission, jackstands, cleaners, polish etc. It also has an additional fixed shelf.

I found four commercial 3' florescent lights for $6.00, that I was able to mount using the existing holes for the roll up doors. once I get the last one mounted I'll be filling them up.

Do the shelves slide out? If so, I think you've got the ideal set up. Even if not, I think they are great. Love the roll up doors.
