At last I have bothered.my backside enough to sort out my ridiculous collection of wrenches, I have well into the hundreds.

I've sorted into 4 piles, metric, imperial, whitworth and ****.

What use can I make of a big bunch of busted and **** spanners?

Any ideas folks?

Shine them up, make them into windchimes, and sell them on Craigslist. Make sure you use the word "primitive" in the title and description. That's the hot word for selling to idiots on Craigslist right now.

Smelt them down and recast or re-forge them into something you need or want.

I chop them down with Dremal cut-off wheels (Seperation Disks) to make "super stubbiy" single-end box and open end wrenches of 2-4" length for hard to access bolts.

Custom drawer pulls for your workbench drawers. Or like BirdMobile suggested... recycle with a bit of cutting and grinding into short single-end service wrenches or one-off tools. That's what I do with them.

I throw all my **** wrenches into a box and use those If I need to cut or bend one to access a bolt. Also if someone asks to borrow a wrench and I know they are not "tool smart" I give them one of the cheapo wrenches so if they lose or break it its no big loss.

The still usable stuff pass on to the friends and family to prevent borrowing. The **** save for the frequent and truly untrustworthy borrowers.

It worked great for me.

Most of these are in the crapbasket because the jaws are worn or they are simply too rusty/pitted to read the sizes, I like the handle idea though!

I'm no expert in this but knife making material maybe?A blacksmith will have a need for high quality material. If you're so inclined maybe look into it, make finding out what it's good for you're hobby. You're propably not gonna make a lot of money with old spanners mate, but i have been wrong in the past.
