Uses for old saw blades

I have had these blades for so long that I can't even remember where they originally came from.

It was my original intention to build a little saw mill with them, but that was 20 years ago. If I was building a mill today, it would be bandsaw style.

So, are they good for anything? Cut them up for knife blades? Sell them on CL to some artsy-craftsy person that will paint Bob Ross landscapes on them?

Do whatever... why ask? I'd put them in the trash if I haven't used them for 20 yrs. Or hang them on the wall as artsy/fartsy artwork.

I have a set of kitchen knives made from old saws, very good steel. Mine have rosewood handles and copper rivets. We use them about as often as our nice stainless ones. Gotta wash them and oil them though.

Hang them on the wall as decor.

That is exactly what I was thinking.

Knife making is something I have been intending to try. I don't have any idea what kind of steel these old blades are and whether it would be worth the trouble cutting them versus just using files or Old Hickorys.

I was building a locking handle assembly that would tighten the drive belt on one of my vintage lathes. I had the handle but needed to make the pawl and rack to be able to set the adjustment. This rack is about 1/4 of an old circular saw blade and gave the fine increments I needed for the project. Ed.



Here is a use for large band saw blades. I didn't like the idea of leaving the outside boards on my deck shops roof exposed so I just covered them with old saw mill band saw blades and secured them with screws. the blades added quite a bit of strength to those exposed boards also. Also a split circular saw blade for the mid span support beam. Ed.
