Using 6/3 UF cable and an LB

I had planned on running normal 6/3 romex in a 1.5 PVC conduit. Instead I am going to use the 6/3 UF cable, which does not need the conduit.
Does that sound right?

Not using conduit, how do I transition from the trenched/buried UF cable into the house? I was going to use conduit and an LB.

Should I use a 90 sweep PVC conduit right where it enters the house? Is there a better way to do it?

Good thing you're not using NM (Romex) in conduit below ground because it's not allowed. You can use a sweep from the trench with conduit up to the LB to get the UF into the house. The UF does not need to be in conduit in the house because it's installation is the same as NM.

Ok, thanks so no conduit in the trench other than using a sweep right at the house into the LB.

You don't need the sweep though. Just pipe straight down from the LB to the trench, and let the UF make the sweep in the ground. The PVC is only protecting the UF from damage above ground.

I assume you are aware that direct buried cable needs to have 24 inches of cover.

Yes, I am renting a 2 foot trencher to bury it. This 6/3 is super stiff and flat. I think I will run it into a junction box on the inside of the house, from the LB and run normal 6/3 into the panel. Although how would I even splice them, wingnuts? Maybe I should just run the UF to the panel.

I'd run the UF to the panel and not mess with the junction box and splice.

Edit: Just curious, what amperage are you looking for and how far is the run?

60amps, run is about 75 feet to a pool equipment pad where I have a sub panel.

A pool panel feeder must be in conduit with individual insulated conductors.


680.25 Feeders

These provisions shall apply to any feeder on the supply side of panelboards supplying branch circuits for pool equipment covered in Part II of this article and on the load side of the service equipment or the source of a separately derived system.

(A) Wiring Methods.

(1) Feeders.


Feeders shall be installed in rigid metal conduit or intermediate metal conduit. The following wiring methods shall be permitted if not subject to physical damage:

1. Liquidtight flexible nonmetallic conduit

2. Rigid polyvinyl chloride conduit

3. Reinforced thermosetting resin conduit

4. Electrical metallic tubing where installed on or within a building

5. Electrical nonmetallic tubing where installed within a building

6. Type MC cable where installed within a building and if not subject to corrosive environment

Mobile Home Feeder cable has insulated conductors but not individual conductors, and would be acceptable.

The aluminum ground is fine for the feeder to the panel, but any branch circuit grounds are required to be insulated copper.

What? MHF is made up of individual insulated conductors.

I agree too, but it's a CABLE assembly, just like Aerial Drop Cable is an cable assembly.

All cables are made up of individual cables.
