Okay, just spitball-in an idea to help the neighbor.

He has steep roofs and goes on a ladder to apply baking soda to roof shingles for moss prevention/eradication, older guy who shouldn't be on a roof but oh well.

I thought maybe I can rig up a large fire extinguisher filled with baking soda and using an air compressor to shoot the baking soda onto the steepest parts of his roof.

It would be fitted with a air fitting because I assume just charging it once would make it run out too fast.

I'm sure there is a commercial version of this out there but I cant seem to find it. Thanks.

would something like a paint sprayer on low pressure with a large tip or a sandblasting sprayer on low pressure do the job?

Why doesn't he just get some zinc strips installed at the top?

Probably because of what Patrick on this YouTube video says, "They dont work."

He says they are good for just a few inches below the strips.

I'll have to ask him though but seems like just spreading the baking soda is a no brainer to him.

harbor freight has an answer for you ;-)

but I like the copper/zinc option myself. and seems would be a service one could hire a roofer to do for you and avoid the roof altogether.

Thanks, I knew there was something out there like that! Hmmm, maybe I can make something similar out of an empty propane bottle!

ps, did you know Harbor Freight does not take coupons anymore for their Central Machinery branded stuff!

If you read the comments after the video, at least one of them definitely disagrees with him.

Look up Wet and Forget. Spray on roof wait for rain it will all be gone.

I use Wet and Forget on multiple roofs and for moss growing on brick. It seems to kill what's there but it doesn't always come off the roof. It does a really good job getting rid of black streaks on a roof although it takes weeks/months for them to disappear. I also use it to remove Lichen from my roof and boat cover, works well for those applications. Use a garden sprayer and can get on the top run of the ladder and spray my entire 1 level roof without climbing on it.
