Been about 9 months since I put down my epoxy floor. I went with the Rustoleum Proffesional version. Now in hindsight I wish I would have done the clear coat as well. Instructions say, if I remember correctly that clear should be done within 5 days of rputting down the epoxy. Anyone have any experience of putting clear coat on after what the manufacturer recommends? Any idea what I might run into trying such a thing?

You can always contact the manufacturer. You will probably have to prep the floor for the clear coat. I'm sure there is a procedure for it. You can't be the only one that wants to do this.

Use a 120 grit sand paper on a large vibrating sander, (rent a parquet floor sander) De-gloss it and apply a "good" poly or 100% solids epoxy top coat. You must have a mechanical bondable surface (scratches) for the top coat to bond. If you are getting a lot of sun, use a polyaspartic or a urethane.... something that wont amber an ya.

Thanks for the tips. I will contact Rustoleum just in case but based on what you state, basically, the key is the clear needs something to bond to. That being said, this may sound silly, but if you sand it to scuff it up, will the clear coat still end up as shiny as would be expected? I guess it is the lear that shines then and the original coat of epoxy that just would show the original color through right?
