I usually hang my guage set off the hood latch hook when I'm adding freon. I was thinking about getting a cheap hanging scale in between the two so I can weigh in my freon. Has anyone done the same?

Reviving an old thread because I have a similar use. Aside from dedicated scales for refrigerant and similar applications, which tend to be expensive, I haven't found what I am looking for, or the description is so vague and in broken English that I can't tell if it does what I want. I want a live reading, digital, 0.1 oz or better resolution, and not turn off before I'm done adding or removing material. Does anybody know of a scale, hanging or otherwise, that does that?

I wouldn't mind finding one too. I mostly use the 12 ounce cans. How does one keep the hose from interfering with the reading?

Any postal scale would do, especially if you're using small cans. If you're charging from a bulk cylinder, youll need the 50lb scale. The weight of the hose is not an issue, I just zero the scale after I purge the air & try not to change the lay of the hose.
I used a paint mixing scale to weigh in the charge for years before I got my recover/recharge station.

Due to some really bad experiences with get rich quick people and just plain incompetence I try to do as much of my own work as I can. This is getting harder in my 70's!

I found a long time ago that this requires an investment in the right tools, some of which I have only used once. I maintain a house, 2 cars, an RV and 3 mini splits so buying the right tools has saved me many thousands of dollars over the years! I will also borrow or rent what I need or buy a tool and sell it when done.

There are numerous choices for a "refrigerant scale" on Amazon for less than $100.00.

There are many more general digital scales on eBay for less.

Some may turn off after a period of inactivity, which should be in the description.

If you want "cheap", then you are dealing with descriptions in broken English. Otherwise, buy a "refrigerant scale"... which may have the same issues if you do not buy a "name brand".

As fitter30 said you have to charge with the cylinder upside down on all current available refrigerants. Get a digital scale as it's critical on some systems that the charge be exact and not approximate like the older R22 systems could be.
