Using a siding brake for sheet metal

I want to make a new top for my workbench. I have access to the 2 sheets of 4x10 stainless sheet metal I want to use, but I need to brake a 6 inch lip on the front and rear for a front apron and a rear backsplash. I have access to a metal brake used for bending aluminum coil trim for siding the outside of a house. Will this style brake be able to bend the heavier stainless?

No. These are light weight brakes designed to bend thin aluminum. You will end up damaging it.

Not a chance. Take the material to a sheet metal shop and have them cut and form what you want.

You didn't mention thickness of the stainless but the siding brake will not do it. Depending of the gauge of the stainless you might have to source someone with a brake press. Stainless is very tough to bend.

You can try to use it. . . . . once.

After that, more than likely you'll have a half bent piece of stainless, a screwed up siding brake and a pissed off brake owner(used to be a friend ?)

Find a fab shop they will have the right stuff to help you. Stainless doesn't bend like carbon steel it kind of has a memory and wants to spring back.

A siding brake would just about bend stainless foil like they use to wrap knives/steel for heat treating but that would just about all the siding brake could handle. Take it or buy it from a shop set up to cut/fold it for you as others have said.
